We just picked up our first commit for the 2017: a strong left-handed pitcher who can throw it....

nah lol I'm kidding, we got us a BASKETBALL commitment for 2017 from 7-1 Center Jason Cudd of Socastee, SC. Judd visited USC over the weekend and was sold on what Coach Martin and staff had to offer, although he was probably already favoring USC heavily. He had offers from ECU and Tulane.

The State Article on the Commitment

We will be a program that will have size in the perimeter, at long last....

Big kid. This state has some elite talent the next 3 years, we need to capitalize on it.

That's just the kind of kid that Martin will turn into a beast. He loves those big strong kids that he can coach to bang the boards and dominate in the paint.

Martin is going to make us a regular participant at the dance ... he seems to be very pleased with the roster he is assembling.

South Carolina’s first big recruiting weekend of the new school year accomplished its mission.

Forward LaDazhia Williams, the No. 47 overall prospect in the country and 12th at her position, committed to Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks on Sunday afternoon. Williams is the second commitment for the Class of 2017.

From Lakewood Ranch High in Bradenton, Fla., Williams is a 6-foot-2 post player who can finish in the paint with either hand. She’s still growing and could be 6-4 to 6-5 by the time she comes to USC.

Williams is a two-time Bradenton Herald Player of the Year and led Lakewood Ranch to the Class 7A state title game last year. She earned an invitation to the under-18 Team USA tryouts in May.

Coach Staley and the women's program also got a late commitment last night from 4* 5-11 Wing Bianca Jackson out of Montgomery Alabama.

She definitely had a good weekend. I think, from what I understand, she got two players she really wanted and may yet get another off of this past weekend.

Gamecocks Men's Basketball picks up another 2017 commitment:

I posted above about Coach Martin getting the pledge from center Jason Cudd a day or so after Cudd officially visiting us the weekend of the 9th. He wasn't the only one that OV'd us that weekend - he was joined by 6-8 Forward Ibrahim Doumbia (6-8, 200 - Miami Country Day School, Miami, FL). Now, Coach Frank has gone two for two on commitments from those visitors:

We continue to add length and athleticism to our program roster. USC had 3 available scholarships for the 2017 cycle with the g=pending graduations of Thornwell, Notice, and McKie, and now have filled 2 of them. I suspect along with others that we'll hold the other one for in-state guard Devontae Shuler.

Doumbia chose USC over offers from Florida, Tennessee, Baylor, TCU, UCF, and UTEP.

So for 2017-18 with everything remaining on schedule, we'll have a roster that includes:

Sr. 6-9 Tut
Jr. 6-9 Silva
So. 6-9 Keita
So. 6-10 Kotsar
So. 7-0 Gueye
Fr. 6-8 Doumbia
Fr. 7-1 Cudd

Was listening to Cary (Rich) today on 107.5 The Game and he was really high on what Coach Martin is doing with recruiting. I think one, or both, of these latest guys has a connection to Coach Martin through his HS coach or something. Good friends, maybe a former player who is now coaching, or something.

All of these big men he is recruiting are very decent prospects as well ... not just desperation takes. These guys fit Martin's system. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can develop these guys into along with what we have returning.

I'm highly optimistic about our men's program.

I know this is probably not the thread for this next class Frank Martin has put together ... but both Staley and Martin just had very decent early signing classes for next year yesterday and today.

These two coaches can recruit.

quote:

Jason Cudd (Socastee, Myrtle Beach) - The 7-foot, 250-pound center is South Carolina’s first signee of 2017 class, but others are expected to join him during the early signing period.

quote:

Felipe Haase (6-10), “I’m very excited to sign my Letter of Intent today with South Carolina,” Haase said in a release to zagsblog.com. “It’s been a longtime dream of mine to play NCAA college basketball. I’m very fortunate to be in this position.

The Miami (Fla.) Christian School is the third low-post addition for South Carolina in 2017, joining 7-foot center Jason Cudd (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and 3-star power forward Ibrahim Doumbia (Miami, Fla.).

As expected, Lower Richland High School (Hopkins, S.C.) guard Clyde Trapp Jr. announced on Wednesday that he has signed with Clemson. The unranked prospect scooped up an offer from the Tigers during his official visit over the weekend.

USC women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley announced that Top 50 recruits Elisia Grissett (Durham, N.C./Hillside) and LaDazhia Williams (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Gamecocks.

A 6-foot-1 guard, Grissett’s ranked the No. 24 prospect overall and the No. 4 wing in the 2017 Class on the espnW 100. The versatile guard posted 22.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 3.0 blocks per game as a junior.

A top-50 recruit in the espnW 100, the 6-2 Williams is the 12th-ranked forward in the 2017 Class. Before participating in the 2016 USA Basketball U18 National Team Trials, Williams was tabbed Florida Association of Basketball Coaches 7A Player of the Year.

USC also signed Bianca Jackson (Montgomery, Ala./Brewbaker Tech Magner) and Haley Troup (Gadsden, Ala./Gadsden).

Tevin Mack (remember him?) has been granted his release from Texas. I wonder if the Dreher HS alum will try to come back home.

He apparently got into some trouble in Austin and had been suspended since mid-January.

Came here to post this.

Apparently the suspension he's been serving since January is his second this season. Not sure Frank wants to bring in somebody with that kind of discipline record

Word around town is that Zion Williamson is really beginning to look at us a lot more seriously due to the NCAAT success. I live in Spartanburg and have some people who are pretty familiar with Spartanburg day school.

Unless Zion just really wants to go somewhere else, I have a hard time believing that he's not at least taking a serious look at us due to this run. Frank is proving that he can win at a high level here. Plus, there well be no shortage of exposure in the next few years.

247 came out with an article this morning that implied we may indeed be much more of a factor with Zion than previously thought. Its looking like its between us, UK, UNCheat, and Dook. Also said that there are those in his inner circle going to bat for us for him to stay in state.

I hope ya'll can snag him. Seeing his athleticism in a Frank Martin defense would be absolutely insane to watch.
