Kory Holden is transferring out of Delaware and he is giving us a visit. Would be a major get. Dave Telep thinks he's s great get for us if we can pull it off.

WBB:

2016 5-star Tyasha Harris from Indiana commits to South Carolina. Ranked #27 nationally by Hoopgurlz. #18 by ProspectsNation.

Gives Dawn an elite guard that can shoot the jumper as well as she can set her teammates up. Huge commitment for Staley's backcourt.

Dawn has to find some shooters ... that's what's missing from her teams. UConn fields five serious shooters that will break-up a zone from deep at any given time. Two or three on the court and two or three on the bench.

We've gotta have some shooters.

I see where, just a few minutes ago, we got Dawn Staley signee ... but now her name escapes me. Got a mini-afro thing going-on and seems very happy to officially be a Gamecock.

I'll try to find it again. Saw it on Twitter while I was driving.

They've announced both the late signing period signings of shooting guard Victoria Patrick - a high 3* prospect per hoopgurls - and the signing of 5* PG Tyasha Harris. These are in addition to earlier signings of 5* PG Araion Bradshaw and 4* PF Mikiah Harrigan. So the 2016 class is officially a class of four, but then when you add in the transfers of both Kaela Davis and Alisha Gray, that's a lot of talent that will suddenly be available for Coach Staley and staff next season, almost as talented as the 2014 class that included A'ja Wilson.

The roster will have a lot more play-makers and scorers than in past seasons. Coach Staley and staff will have more options as to the lineup they can put on the floor: have the traditional post-presence-heavy lineup with Wilson and Coates, or have a smaller, guard-oriented lineup with Cuevas, Harris, Bradshaw, Gray, and Davis who all can either slash to the basket or are capable perimeter jump-shooters (well, Cuevas hasn't developed that part of her game well but she has the slasher part down pat).

I'm looking forward to next season with this roster of talent. I was already excited about a starting 5 of Cuevas, Gray, Davis, Wilson, and Coates, but have been concerned with the lack of depth at PG with Bianca's shakiness, and the loss of Jatarie White. But now with the 3 incoming guards - both Harris and Bradshaw can play the 2 as well as the point - we'll now have quality depth behind the talented McDonald's AAs, offensively speaking...

Wow ... thanks for that Conway. I was hoping someone could break it down like that and give us something to look forward to next season. We definitely needed some shooters. We've got the inside presence in the low post .... we needed shooters who can slash on the perimeter.

I think one of the transfers was the ACC's leading scorer was she not? Not sure about the other one.

Bianca has 3 pt shooting skills ... she just needs to hone them during the off season.

I was told at least one, perhaps two, of this latest class were Mickey D's worthy but one of them actually declined an invite for some reason or another?

Edited: dammit, I hate autocorrect

All 4 of the 2016 class were nominated for the McDonald's AA game, but none of them ended up playing in it....

Davis was 3rd in the ACC her final year with 19.2 ppg. She led all ACC freshmen in 2013-14 with 18.6 ppg which was good for 6th in the ACC that year. She set the GT single-season scoring record her final year with them.

Gray was 2nd in scoring her freshman year at UNC with 13.9 ppg, trailing Diamond DeShields. After DeShields transferred out, Gray became the Tarheels' leading scorer at 15.8 ppg. Gray is also a solid rebounder, averaging 5.5 her freshman season, and 7.6 her last yr. in Chapel Hill. So she should help Coates and Wilson in that regard...

Both Davis and Gray are very capable scorers much like Wilson and Coates are, so we should see immediate contributions from those 4. Hopefully Cuevas will lead the other youngsters in providing supporting scoring of their own....

Do Davis and Gray both have two years of eligibility remaining, or even three perhaps?

These two new girls coming-in ... they are both considered elite scorers, shooters?

So let me get this right. Both Harris and Patrick are considered scorers ... shooters. Harris, who had 55 offers, is the 5-10 point guard, shooting guard, and is known for being a scorer. She's the one out of Indianapolis, correct?

The other little gal is a slasher, ball handler, who will likely be redshirted? Patrick ... 5-8" outta Orlando?

And then there are the two earlier signees. The forward out of south Florida, Mikiah Harrigan 6-2" top 100 player who is known for defense, especially her perimeter defense, as well as being underrated as a perimeter scorer, (who's boyfriend has an offer from us and is considered an elite DB or WR if I remember correctly), ... and then the girl, Araion Bradshaw I believe her name is, is a 5 star 5-6" shooting guard as well? I think she is also a top 50 player, top 10 guard. She's supposed to be a potent scorer from anywhere on the court ... really quick in the mold of Bianca, but considered a much better perimeter shooter.

Wow, that's six new faces and all of them with great credentials.

Is it possibly, likely even, that we just upgraded even with the loss of Mitchell, White and Roy?

Gosh, I hope so. I cannot wait to see all of these girls on the court together.

ETA: Sure wish we could have landed the Beatrice Mompremier along with her teammate Harrigan. She signed with Baylor ... look for her in the future, she is very very very good for a big girl.

Yep ... you beat me to it.

I had mentioned us maybe getting him back a couple of weeks ago ... he's a big time get for Martin.

Dave Telep is an old friend of mine, goes back to the Dave Odom days ... and Telep thinks this guy is going to be a difference maker for us. He's a big time player at a position we really need to firm up ... and the guy can score.

Has anyone talked about this other kid yet .... Jaylen Fisher? LINK

We're in the hunt. Was committed to UNLV, not sure what happened there but if I am reading that right he's been released from that commitment and can transfer and play right away.

Out of Tennessee, was the #13 guard in the nation outta HS.

Apparently Coach Martin and staff have the program in great shape with 2017 center prospect and former UConn commitment Zach Brown. Brown (7-1, 256) is originally from Miami FL, but transferred to CT after committing to them.

Since then, Brown has left the CT HS (Putnam Science Academy) and returned to Miami, and the below article states that South Carolina "now figures to be a major player for Brown".

Brown is a highly regarded center prospect with a lot of major program offers, so now that he's re-opened his recruitment I'm sure those programs are going to start beating down his door. True power centers with talent are worth their weight in gold....

Coach Martin and South Carolina gained another commitment for next season: JUCO 6-9 Forward Ran Tut, out of Australia. Tut averaged 10.4 ppg and 5.9 rpg for Monroe Junior College in NY.

So now that's 4 players at 6-9 (Tut, Silva, Keida, Kotsar) plus Gueye who's 7-1, available for next season. Not sure how much they all will factor into the season, but we definitely won't be thin on post presence...
