Yeah, I'm not really arguing for the integrity of the media. I'm just saying what was reported is consistent with things he has said publicly. Things not only limited to service members and their families, and not only limited to his time in office. Things his supporters cheer for and love him for.

What is consistent is the relentless false stories that have been driven by MSM companies over the past 3.5 years about Trump. If one wants to know another by their actions one can look at the various sources on the left and know without question that those groups have lied and spread outright lies about Trump. They are liars and in a question of who's telling the truth the odds are overwhelming that most media is not.
One may or may not like his tone or the fact that he tweets like mad. One may disagree with his policies, but there is zero question that Trump has been grossly mistreated and misrepresented to the American people by the MSM. The coordinated political smear campaign by the Media and the deep state ought to scare the hell out of you A LOT worse than Donald Trump.
What else is consistent is that numerous people closely associated with Trump have discredited the Atlantic's claim. Furthermore, numerous families who have lost members in combat note that Trump is remarkably compassionate in their time of grief. The guy actually cares. Things aren't all politics and publicity ops for him.

He said it about McCain. McCain had his military files classified because they were horrendous. He wasn’t a hero and cost a lot of servicemen their lives
