Altmyer - Dent?

Not much to go on in judging the quality of the backups, but does anyone have a sense for the level of optimism (or not) about these guys? One over the other?
Also, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but does anyone know why Altmyer didn't seriously consider State, given he's a Starkville native and his dad is the ortho for the team??

Just assumed he wanted to leave home for college. Plenty of kids do

Luke Altmyer wasn’t going to State with them having a 4 star QB already committed in the class. Dent had a pretty bad fall camp and Luke has been limited all fall camp with an injury. We’re taking a transfer QB to compete with Luke next year.

So I'm assuming confidence in Dent is pretty low? I've watched all his HS highlight vids and seen his HS stats. Other than his relatively low completion % he was pretty impressive. He looks slow, but 6'5" QBs often do. He ran well, gained a lot of yards. Strong arm. There's no way to predict success from one level to another, but I'm pretty surprised he hasn't shown better so far.

Dent just looked lifeless presnap. It looked like he had just rolled out of bed and someone told him he had to play QB. I’m sure it’s just a perception thing, but I thought it was kind of odd..

With Lane coaching, I have no doubt the next guy will be fine. I think it will be Altmyer.

Altmyer is the clear #2 despite battling injuries all fall camp. If Pigrome is able to get acclimated to the offense, we probably don't see again this year.
