except Ben Howland is probably gone after this season.

No he isn’t. Team is young he will get to stay to see if he can get them to the tourney next year.

and I was one of those that said getting rid of Stansbury was a big mistake. What have we done since? Absolutely nothing.

Howland had 3 straight 20+ win seasons including a NCAA bid. We likely would have gotten a bid last year too if not for Covid cancelling tournaments. I’m not overly impressed this season but I think he deserves one more year. If next year isn’t any better with the talent that returns I say fire him. I think firing him now is a mistake and would look bad, and who would we get?

“Actually, I can’t argue that. But Stans went out on a limb to sign some (talent that were 50/50 trouble) and paid the price. I think he thought he could mold them but sometimes you just can’t.”

I remember Rick Cleveland writing a column after Stans signed Sidney.
He wrote that Stans would either be wildly successful or be fired.

We saw what happened.

What really lost my support was not just the Hawaii fight and his handling of Sidney but he had not even talked with Dee Bost about the NBA draft and timing.

Come on man, this guy was the leader of your team for years and you don't talk about draft preparations?

Some blamed Bost but the lack of communication didn't just start. He had obviously lost control and he was not putting the genie back in the bottle.

I heard that Bost was almost as much of a cancer as Sydney. Just message board rumors though.

That was a tough game to watch. High number of turnovers and 3 of 12 from the FT line. We managed to win, but the high turnovers are the common theme in our losses. Our FT percentage has to be the worst in the SEC.

I was genuinely surprised in the lack of success Howland has had. We figured out what we had with CMA after season 4, but he was here a tad bit too long.

He did well, but not great. I think we have the right guy in Muss ... But we shall see
