SP+ thinks more highly of Alabama's 2020 team -- which just wrapped up a perfect 13-0 campaign with a 28-point thumping of Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship -- than any other team in the history of the sport.

He, and many others in the media, aren't afraid to give 2020 Bama its due.

SP+ also said 2019 Ohio State was #1 that year, not LSU

But I'll say this: If you want to claim that the greatest coach in the history of college football just produced the greatest team in the history of college football to further the greatest dynasty in the history of college football (and with the greatest receiver, to boot), I have the stats to back you up.

Will be some crying on this one

2019 OSU was a great team. Refs and ineffective Redzone cost them.
Would have loved to see OSU with the pass rush and corners they had vs LSU last year. Chase probably would have dominated the LSU O-line.

LSU caught a break and got to face a Clemson team that lost 3 1st rd defensive lineman from 2018.

That is just a bad take. LSU dominated everyone last year and spend many a fourth quarters coasting or kneeling inside 10 yard lines. One player or one defense was not stopping them. Brady would have just schemed around that player.

And yes, LSU was "lucky" Clemson graduated 3 DL in 2018 just like 2020 Bama was "lucky" Chase went pro in 2019. You can't have it both ways. Either both 2019 LSU and 2020 Bama were lucky or they were not. Both teams were great.

I’m going to have to disagree with Mr. Bill on this one. The 1888 YALE team was the 1st team to go into double digit wins. At 13-0 and under the sad conditions they played in such as thin leather helmets, limited pads, poor ball construction and no Gator-Aid, I believe that they were the GOAT. A close 2nd would have to be the 1870 Princeton team which was the 1st team to go undefeated at 1-0.

Try some critical thinking. I read an article, from Bill Connelly, explaining his SP+ system.

"Let’s start by addressing what S&P+ is not.
It is not a résumé tool. If you’re looking for something transitive — Team A beat Team B and has more wins than Team C, so Team A should be ranked ahead of Team B and Team C — you aren’t going to find it here."

LSU played 3 close games last year. They didn't dominate everyone this is a lie. Didn't dominate Texas, Alabama, or Auburn . They didn't play particularly well against Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, or Ole Miss either.

And I'm not sure that the forward pass was even legal then too!

Hellva Team!
