then you should know that they won't be in the top 5 in the draft
Hawks tied for the 4th worst record with the Pelicans 25 games in.
Warriors - 5-21
Knicks - 5-20
Cavs - 5-19
Hawks - 6-19
Pelicans - 6-19
I do think that the Warriors, Knicks, and Cavs will lock down the bottom 3 spots. They are abysmal and will probably actively tank.
From there I think the Hawks are in a group with the Hornets, Grizzlies, Bulls, and maybe a couple more that will fill out the bottom 10 in some order.
Because of the Hawks youth and I think clear aversion to tanking I doubt they will finish in the bottom 5. I think there are teams that will mail it in the last 1/3 of the season, the Hawks won't. Looks like there are going to be a lot of sub-30 win teams this year. So likely in order to pick top 5 the Hawks will have to beat the odds in the lottery.

The damn Pelicans, Grizzlies, and Lakers all did last year. You never know.
Anthony Edwards or James Wiseman guarantees a Hawks #Dynasty.

I don't follow the NBA..at all. Why are the warriors so bad? Did they trade away a bunch of folks? Injuries? As an outsider it looks weird them going from one of the best 4-5 year runs ever to now being pathetic.

-Kevin Durant is gone.
-Klay Thompson hasn't played this year and won't with an ACL tear.
-Steph Curry played in 4 games and broke his wrist and will be out for months. Would not be surprised if the Warriors slow play his return because their season is done.
-Draymond Green and D'Angelo Russell have both missed multiple games with injuries as well.
-Demarcus Cousins is gone.
-Key reserves like Andre Iguodala and Shawn Livingston are gone too.
They are rolling with starting fives that look like this:
PG - Ky Bowman
SG - Alec Burks
SF - Glenn Robinson III
PF - Eric Paschall
C - Willie Cauley-Stein
Last year was mostly this
PG - Steph Curry
SG - Klay Thompson
SF - Kevin Durant
PF - Draymond Green
C - Damarcus Cousins
It's a completely different team and their healthy roster sucks.

When you have a star player go down, you quite literally lose 20% of the talent on the floor, offensively and defensively.
That’s what sucks about Collins so much. We aren’t deep enough yet to weather that storm. He’s undoubtedly our second best player.

Hawks just got smoked by one of the worst teams in the NBA who aren't even trying to win (i.e., the Knicks).
Hawks currently sit alone with the worst record in the Eastern conference at 6-22.
That is tied for the second worst in the NBA:
Warriors: 5-23
Hawks: 6-22
Pelicans: 6-22
Cavs: 6-21
Knicks: 7-21
At this point in the season last year the Hawks had the same 6-22 record.

Losing Collins has hurt, but no way it should have affected us THIS badly. Past 10 games have been tough to watch and I usually turn away before the 4th.

Culturally, there are a few guys I can't wait to get rid of - namely, Parsons and Turner.
We had some great locker room guys last year in Dedmon and Baze, who were enthusiastic and good role models. You can only get so far with you. You have got to have veterans in the locker room.

I'm still blown away that we didn't sign a backup PG and really thought ET would be suitable. It doesn't take much basketball knowledge to know that was a horrible idea.

I think the expiring contract was the sexy part of the move. We thought he'd be "good enough," when in reality he's garbage.

14pct chance if you have the worst record in the NBA. Tanking in the NBA rarely nets you a good pick - meanwhile - Cleveland has won the lottery 4 times.

no way this team ends up in the top 5 of the draft.
Update:
Hawks are now 6-27
That's easily the worst in the NBA.
Bottom 5:
Hawks: 6-27
Warriors: 9-25
Knicks: 9-24
Wizards: 9-22
Cavs: 10-22
Top 5 pick is looking more and more likely.
The Hawks were 9-24 at this point last year.
I still do not think the Hawks will actively tank and I think there are other organizations that will. So it is possible that the Hawks will slide out of the bottom 5 and end up needing to be picked in the lottery to secure a top 5 pick. But right now that top 5 pick guarantee is looking pretty "good."
