LSU defense peaking at the right time, or one-game aberration?

I’d like to think LSU’s defense has finally adjusted, gotten healthy and found its mojo in the A&M game. If that’s the case, I don’t think there’s a team in CFB that will beat them the rest of the way. It was complete domination.

On the other hand, I wonder how much “extra” attention was given to scheming for A&M defensively after the 2018 abomination, plus the extra motivation.

Hopefully it was just everything finally coming together.

I think LSUs defense is underrated. Not great but certainly good enough. Some excellent individual players

I love how people proclaim because of Ole Miss how bad our defense is but show them putting a smack down on a better team, Aggies, they are good just not great!

We have show flashes at times. Never a complete game like the A&M one outside of our AU performance.

A little bit of both. They looked really fast. A&M did also have a trench war with Georgia the previous week.

That’s the defense we expected to see all year. Why now and not before, I can only guess it was more about the scheme because I saw the defense do things like attack and blitz more than any other game before A&M.

Nah. LSU's defense has been historically bad at times this season. They've greatly benefited from the offense jumping out to 2,3 and 4 TD leads. Aranda did do a few things against A&M to confuse Mond but Mond was downright awful all by himself.

If LSU comes out Saturday and stops UGA's first 2 or 3 drives it's going to be a looooong night for the Dawgs.

I fervently hope it's the former!

Eh. We matched up well with A&M’s offense. Their O-line is bad and couldn’t establish a running game. With no real ground threat, we pinned our ears back and blitzed with success.

This is very simple. 1st half LSU D has been pretty good. Second half problems. What cased that? Two things lack of depth and injuries. Beginning of the year, the defense was injured and thin. Aranda and O decided to give Flott, Brooks, and the other freshmen crew playing time starting in the Bama game back half because of injury. They felt comfortable against Arkansa to get Delpit rest with freshmen playing in his place. Fast forward to the end of the move LSU D has most dominate performance. Delpit look like the stud he is, Chassion was allowed to attack the QB and Brooks bookends him doing the same. Result 6 sacks.

Why?
Players are healthier, freshmen now have meaningful playing time under their belt and the secondary has tighten down so Aranda feels he has to play less coverage and brought the heat against A&M Saturday.

This is not an aberration, it is a defense that has continuously improved and built depth, which was not there at the beginning of the year.

We're getting better but UGA's oline is wayyyyyyyyy better than A&M's and may as well be playing a different sport from Arky.

No doubt, UGA is good. Stop the run and man up on those receivers. The same game plan everyone used to beat LSU the past decade.

People seem to forget we have been hammered by suspensions and injuries this year on defense. When we are healthy and all playing, we are way better than people give us credit for

I do think LSU has a good defense. However, I wouldn’t put a lot into the A&M game. They are not a very good offensive team. They ranked 74th nationally, and that is only because they played 3 FCS teams in which they averaged 50 points a game against those 3 teams.

I’m not crediting A&M for having a great offense. I’m pointing out that LSU gave up a lot of points they shouldn’t have this year against bad offenses, and that trend stopped Saturday.

A&M's line looked pretty awful. UGA is much better there. But Chaisson is a freak.

LSU's secondary and LBs have elite talent and at times flash it. The DL is deeper than previous years and has good players, but is the one area that hasn't really gelled for some reason. That is the main difference I think between LSU and UGA/AU in total Defensive production.

I know A&M has it's issue in the OL but that game and Utah State the front looked dominant the whole unit looked vintage LSU. Fast and nasty.

UGA has a good OL it won't be easy, but if the DL plays close to what they did vs A&M LSU's D can really play.

I always thought this defense was good with the chance to be great. They have sustained good and have shown flashes of bad and flashes of great.

We need great to win it all, and I think we are seeing it now.
