There aren’t many bright spots on defense.

A look at the starting lineup shows pretty much all seniors and freshmen.

A couple of linemen show promise, but there’s not a lot to look forward to next season on that side of the ball.

It would be awesome if most of the freshmen were showing signs of becoming great players, but I don’t think that can be said for more than 2-3 of them.

I’m hoping Saban torches the whole thing and rebuilds. Maybe some on the incoming freshmen will be alphas.

Who do you guys think will step up and play next season?

If Kaho can come on that would be nice. Baremore doesn’t need to come off the field and I’ll be happy to see Diggs go. Mayden might be worst safety of the Saban era but battle looked good so I guess that’s ok lol

If you burn down the defense and rebuild, Bama will have the same terrible defense next year. You never want to depend on true freshman on defense. Bama will be a lot better next year on defense as long as injuries don't cripple them again.

Injuries have killed the Bama defense the last 3 years.

How much better would the Bama defense been against Clemson last year with a healthy Buggs, Diggs, Lewis, Allen and Miller?

Or this year with a healthy Moses, McMillan and Ray?

Losing Moses was crippling. It would be like losing a McClain, Hightower, Mosley, Ragland or Foster from the great defenses of Saban earlier teams.

Whatever happens, I don't feel confident about the defense next year. This has been a trend for the defense. Seems like it just keeps getting worse with every passing year. And I don't buy it's because it's the O's. Auburn's D just this year has proven this is a myth. Those guys are out on the field a lot too due to bad offensive play.

It's a shame to have an elite O squandered by bad defensive play.

Raekwon Davis is massive, and that’s about it. We’ll look back on his career here, and basically sum it up by saying “he was there.”

The days of shutting down offenses are over. This is just what football is now. We can be better than last night, but 2011 type stats aren't returning.

My gripe is this. Even with the injury bug striking the defense, there is no way we should still have players not knowing where to line up and there coverage assignments. I can live with the mistakes of Lee and Harris, but to see veterans like Mayden, Benton, Carter, Davis, etc. play out of position or simply not knowing what to do is disheartening and down right a reflection of poor coaching and scheming.

Having played defensive back in college, I can admit Golding knows more football than me; However, this defense has no identity. Most defenses have an identity (i.e. blitz happy, coverage tricks, etc.) at this point, and our only identity is giving up 3rd downs.

Years of losing players early to the draft and injuries have caught up with us.

We've also had some recruiting misses late to other teams, players leave and players told to leave.

Throw in a few misses on recruit evaluations as well.

No. He is smart enough to see that our biggest problem is youth due to injuries. It will get better.

Absolutely.

And maybe recruiting also. Besides being athletic, they have to be able to grasp our playbook, which Rolando McClain said was more complex than the Oakland Raiders.

We've been spoiled in the secondary for so long: Kareem, Mark Barron, Arenas, Dre, Millner, Ha-Ha, Eddie, Minkah, Humphrey, Jones, Levi Wallace, Robert Lester. The guys you mentioned aren't in their league.

The best thing they have going for them is sending #15 on a blitz ...hell 33 and 24 get back their but they can't tackle anybody when they do...not to mention 21. This defense is so average but we've seen that in the 8 games before this game.

Go out in a blaze of glory -

1. Bring back Bo to coach the d-line. Multiple mistakes happen.
2a. Hope Will Muschamp gets canned. If he does, promise him as many of Golding's whiteboards as he wants to punch a hole through. If Muschamp isn't an option, go to 2b.
2b. Find James Willis (wherever he is) to coach linebackers.
3. Find a new cornerbacks coach.

You're welcome, America.

Unless they change the rules of football. Lock down defenses are not going to happen anymore.

We can definitely be better then last night though, but we need to set our expectations
