we blow our first SEC game, and we start to slowly slide back down the top 25. By the end of the regular season we are out of the top 25 finish about midway in the Western Conf and play a lesser bowl...

Sound familiar? :)

I'm honestly kinda wanting a Bowden/Fisher pro-style "take 7 minutes per drive" type of offense right now. EVERYONE is running tempo, so it's not new or novel anymore. Everyone is used to it and everyone practices against it weekly. AU has zero advantage there anymore.

People aren't nearly as prepared for a West coast style offense these days as they were, say, in the 90's or 00's.

Football is cyclical - the key is to do what everyone else is not doing and make teams have to specifically prepare for you. Bamas and UGA's and LSU's can get away with running the flavor of the month offense because they out-talent everyone anyway. They can just do whatever and it doesn't matter. Ensminger looks like a spread offense genius because he has TALENT. Dude didn't know his arse from a hole in the ground at Auburn. He was terrible.

For AU with our inferior talent, we need an edge somewhere else. Much like Army has always done.

Fisher has proved the pro-style still works. Indeed, it is probably stronger now than ever because it keeps the tempo offenses off the field.

To be fair, Fisher has shown it works when he has talent too. Most offenses work when a really good QB is at the helm. I imagine if we had our 2013 offense at the moment, we’d be tearing people apart.

We should run the ND box with Gatewood, Nix, and Joiner.

“Direct snap to Nigh, pirouette, fake inside to Joiner, reverse to Gatewood, pitches ball to Bo who throws to Canella in the flat- incomplete, fourth down and 8.”

Yep, way too high. Yesterday really highlighted how much trouble we’re in unless something borderline magical happens with our run offense

The offense was poor but the team did cover the spread.
