I know this is sensitive for some, but it is what it is.
#1 Southern Cal vs. #8 Virginia Tech
#4 Texas vs. #5 California
#3 Auburn vs. #6 Utah
#2 Oklahoma vs. #7 Georgia
USC/VT would be a rematch.
UT/Cal a toss up.
Early Urban Meyer no match for Tubs.
Never know about OU/UGA.

Would love to see that USC team and that Auburn team play. Or is that the 05 teams, I am thinking of?

Truthfully think VY was better with Jamaal Charles than Cedric Benson.
But that 2004 team also had Derrick Johnson.
Just a 4 team playoff with USC, Oklahoma, Auburn and Texas would have been great.

I wouldn’t wanted to have played Texas again. 12-0 was tough. Still can’t believe that game. I was there live.

Really not sure why these keep having 8 teams. You're doing a retroactive hypothetical for a hypothetical future change in the playoff size.

Cal would have been an awfully tough out that year. They had USC beat in LA and absolutely blew it. They dominated every stat but the score.

Tubs is 2-0 against Meyer, one of those wins against Florida the season they won the MNC.
Edit: I read your post wrong, sorry I fricked up, lol

Don't know if it was injuries or what but Cal didn't end that season on a high note.
They struggled against Southern Miss in a makeup game
Couldn't stop Texas Tech in the Holiday Bowl.
They still had Aaron Rogers and a lot of talent.
That team wasn't peaking at the end of the year like others.
If any team would have surprised anyone that year it would have been Utah.
That offense with Alex Smith was hard to stop.
It was something new. Similar to WVs success under Rich Rodriguez in bowl games during this time
They completely destroyed Pitt in their BCS game.
Teams didn't have speed to stop these players until later on the edge.
Linebackers were much slower and used to playing downhill.

2003. I would have loved to have seen that matchup in 2003.
Hell... 2002 even.
