Fromm, Swift and the line to gain

I hope that Coley will teach the offensive guys how important it is on second and third down to know where the line to gain is and to get there.
Too many times I've seen both Fromm and Swift fail to extend a series when the line to gain was in reach.

I had not noticed this, but it is very important.
As for Fromm, the QB has to throw the ball to where the receiver is. It is the receiver's job to get to the first down marker and "sit down". If the receiver "sits down" on his route and is open Fromm has no choice.
Not trying to argue with you. Just a point.

Fromm slide early a few times, I believe that is what the op is addressing.

Ah. If that's what he is talking about then I stand corrected. I don't really recall Fromm sliding early, though. more often than not a QB is going for as much yardage as possible short of getting tagged. However, the rule is they are down where they begin their slide, and that might need some clarification.

I just want to win a goal line stand...

This is much easier said than done for a runner. It’s easier for a receiver to cut off his route at the sticks because he has a few less moving parts in the form of oncoming tacklers to worry about.
It’s like when fans say that a DB just needs to get his head around. It’s fricking hard

He slid early in one of the big games against Bama. Just a mental error but it was a pretty big drive if I remember correctly.

Certainly, we March the most gifted athletes in the country out there, sadly, so does our competition.

Also, given our QB depth situation, Fromm’s primary goal as a runner should be to get down before he gets hit.

Well Swift and his teammates were working hard at 2:00 am during the May break session, running drills in the practice facility, so I'd imagine they're doing their best to get in shape and learn Coley's system. Their offensive peers over at Tennessee have definitely been working hard to learn Chaney's system, spending a ton of time in the coach's office apparently.
And Jake has been putting food on his family's table. Did you see that big gobbler he bagged during his week out in Arkansas or somewhere? And the nice fish he's been catching this offseason? Took a break last week for some beach work, but I bet he caught a flounder or something.

Agree, but he went down way early and would tell you that himself.

I wasn't very clear. I was referring to Fromm either sliding early or going out of bounds early and Swift juking for a bigger play instead of diving for the first down.
We haven't thrown many hopelessly short third down passes.
