When is the last time Auburn fired a coach midseason?

Not trolling, I just can’t remember Auburn doing it in my lifetime. Even Chizik finished the worst season in modern football.

Let’s say injuries happen and we are struggling to make a bowl. If Malzahn goes is Steele interim? Obviously I want us to go undefeated and Malzahn to prove all of us wrong who want him replaced.

Terry Bowden quit mid season after he was told he would not be retained.

As much as fans want to fire coaches mid season there aren't a lot of good reasons to do so...LSU's situation is one of those good reasons.

Head coach? Don't know.

Assistant coach? Tony Franklin comes to mind

It probably could happen. And I believe Gus will give back his buyout for the betterment of the school

It’s not. It’s a genuine question, I don’t think Auburn fires anyone mid season in football. No intention of being negative here.

Not something that happens that often in SEC football, other than LSU, who have dismissed 3 of their last 4 HCs during the season (probably would have been 4 of 5 if we hadn't choked away the win in Red Stick two years ago).

Bamas done it once with DuBose, who was canned with 2 games left in 2000, even though he finished out the year. Same with Bill Curry at UK in the 90s. Can't think of any others off hand.

I’m pretty sure Gene was informed after the game against Arkansas that he was not going to be retained. We’ve fired coaches mid season. They just weren’t made effective immediately.

I imagine that's fairly routine, which is why it's unusual that an HC would be dismissed officially while there were still games to be played, especially at the frequency LSU has done it.
