People, if we get Lupoi then we arguably have the best recruiter in the nation on staff to go along with Dell McGee and Sam Pittman. Kirby can handle the defense.

Kirby is the head coach. He has a lot of duties and can't do the DC's job for him, even if he is involved. I'm not sure hiring a guy who wasn't great at being a DC is the right move. Recruiting can only get you part of the way there. You need a great coach who can teach and scheme to beat great offenses.
I think Derrick Ansley would be the best choice, even though he hasn't been a DC.

Coach Smart needs to stop being the Co-DC and Co-OC and start being the HC. If he has to run around all game sending defensive and offensive signals then he's hired the wrong coaches.

Yep, supposedly Saban broke out the checkbook and gave Lupoi a hefty raise to stay put.
