I wish I had the pictures on my phone, my cousin works on the grounds crew at A&M and he is who used to fish with President Bush on campus.

That’s awesome. I used to go the back way on my bike to class at bush school and every blue moon I’d catch a glimpse of the old man enjoying nature. Out of respect for his privacy I never stopped by to say hi, though we did exchange waves once; a large part of me still regrets not doing so. I never got a chance to meet him, unfortunately.

Last of the WWII veteran presidents. Last of our grandparents' generation.
Lots of Houston and A&M memories added in.
But mostly, I've just always been struck by what a decent and normal guy he was who had real friends and wasn't isolated in the political bubble.

Years ago we were developing a tract of land adjacent to the neighborhood the Bush's lived in and as I was doing the boundary survey I met Mrs Bush out walking their dogs. She was a nice lady, the secret service on the other hand weren't real happy because I had a sheathed machaete on my belt.

I met him when he was fishing the pond behind the Allen Building. He was cool as hell, especially considering I was bothering him, which would piss me off. He was the opposite of pissed. Funny, warm guy. Not how he was portrayed on TV. He was much much more charismatic in person.

I'm jealous of the people who just ran into him around campus. Even when I was taking political science classes over at the Bush School building I never saw him in person, except at a taping of the Charlie Rose show in the giant auditorium.
