I agree. I actually thought the Black Bear was very marketable. I have no idea what they were thinking when they did this. They'll probably just have to create another mascot in 8 years.

Except it wasn't. No one bought anything with the bear on it. We'll see if it works out with the shark.

Tony has actually been pretty well accepted by the fan base. I didn’t have an issue with the bear but it was never embraced either by the fans or the administration. They’ve already released several logo dedications to it. For once the administration did well

I liked the bear. Wanted a bear habitat/enclosure on campus.

Ole Miss didn’t market the bear at all - they never gave it a chance.
The associate AD himself they chose not to go all in with the Bear out of fear of negative response from Colonel Reb apologists.

I think this has to be a coke/new coke/ coke classic situation. Make a mascot so horrible that the bear looks great in comparison. If not, holy shite that is a disaster.
