After watching the game last night and seeing how all the units played, how much do you think it improves? I know as a State fan, when UAB put a ton of yards on us in 2014, I thought we were looking at a 7-5 season.
I've read some of the posts saying that it'll wake the players up and get them focused. Is that all that needs to happen?

It was the first game against a quality team that, let's face it, is really hard to get pumped about.
Vole will be fine.

who knows? The team has the talent. Gameday coaching is often questionable, but they say some of the biggest improvement comes from Game 1 to Game 2. I know Vol fans are hoping that's the case.
But I just can't speculate right now. I have to see another game. That Tennessee team has a lot of talent and was putting up a lot of yards last season. It's hard for me to imagine that they can't improve. But until I see what they look like against Virginia Tech, I'm agnostic on where they're going this season.

I would be much more worried if it wasn't the same team we had last year. Every single player on the field last night except 1 WR (Tyler Byrd) and LT (Drew Richmond) was a contributor last year.
It's the exact same team as last year. I don't think they have taken some massive step back. Just played very badly like Arkansas, S. Carolina and North Texas last year.

Pretty much this.

Agree per usual.

It may say more about how a program like App St that has won a bunch of games is able to execute their schemes even against a more talented team. They got some help early with the fumbled punt, but they hurt themselves with the missed PAT and FG. Their coach might could have managed the clock better late. These upsets USUALLY require all things to be executed at a high level for 60 minutes or more.
App St was close, but UT pulled it out.
Next week is a new season for both. We shall see whether this is a trend or a blip.
