Why is LSU not able to get the coach they want?

A school that sees itself on the same level as Alabama would have already had the guy they wanted locked down IMO
Seems odd they’re resorting to backup plan hires

Alabama had to be turned down by Spurrier and RichRod before they hired Saban during their last search and that didn't happen to late December or early January IIRC.

LSU is a legit Top #10 school in the country pretty much at all time. Bama is as well, they just have Saban.
LSU could get who they want. I don't think they need to call if out if the coach is still coaching. Plus I think they let Coach O finish the season.

LSU used to be a great job - easy to recruit, lots of talent, etc... However, the way they treat their coaches has raised a few eyebrows out there

Last 3 coaches at LSU win titles...pretty impressive. I don't think any other school in the country could say that.

Because it's not just about the money anymore. Anywhere in the SEC, and most of the top half of the Power 5 have tons of money, and most of these guys are already millionaires several times over anyway. Everywhere is a destination job now, financially. Money isn't going to be enough to get someone.
What a place like LSU offers is opportunity. The last 3 coaches all won a natty and two of them were idiots. The issue with getting coaches like Lincoln Riley or Dabo Sweeney to move is that they already have opportunities where they are now to win a championship.
If the money isn't a factor, and the opportunity isn't a factor, there's no reason to take the job. I really think these things are leaked out there so Woodward can get the LSU fanbase ready to hear, "We really tried to put huge money out there to get a huge hire. But those guys wouldn't come so here's this guy that we think can win here." There are lots of coaches than can win a lot of games at LSU--and maybe titles--that aren't Riley or Sweeney.

You do realize they also are the only ones that can say they fired 2 national championship head coaches?

I personally think coaches like Riley at OU and Dabo at Clemson are gods where they’re at. You take the LSU, Alabama, Georgia or Ohio State jobs and you better be ready for the expectations that come with it.

No one is able to get the coach that they want anymore.
Aside from Texas A&M getting Jimbo, of whom Florida State was growing tired despite consistent success due to his demands, I can't think of any time within the last five years that a school was able to grab whomever they wanted.
Even Duke and UNC basketball went with assistants instead of Jay Wright/Tony Bennett/Mark Few, if that speaks to the general trend. Big names are sparse to begin with, and them leaving strong programs just doesn't happen anymore.

The season is still going on. If they were getting a big name it could not be announced. We will not know what is really going on until after someone is hired.

Season isn’t over. What coach would leave their team right now?

ANY fan is delusional if they see their program on the same level as Alabama.
LSU is the next tier, having played in 4 National Championships in the past 18 seasons, winning 3.

Still a Top 10 job.
Auburn wasn't too far away from being able to claim firing 2 National championship head coaches...we were pretty close..

Through their delusion they think they are on the same level as Alabama but they are nowhere close.

They are looking at guys who either have top 10 jobs or are getting paid like they do.
It's a cold hard world in the cutthroat business of NCAA football.

Saban wanted out of the NFL 6 months after he took the Miami job. He told Sexton he had his permission to begin talks with 3 schools if it looked like their HC's jobs were going to be open. Those schools were UGA, LSU and Alabama. Sexton started calling the UA AD in late October 2006 and his calls were ignored. The PTB in the AD did everything they could to frike that hire up. Thank god they are all gone now.
