He says "AU is playing as good as anyone in the league right now, they're playing great football."
Question: "What is different with Bo Nix this year?"
Jimbo: "Well I think Mike Bobo is doing a great job calling games. Harsin is an offensive guy. Bryan's done a great job with that team. Bo is picking his moments as to when to run, he knows where he's going, what he's doing. He's making good decisions with the ball. They're getting great play action because of the run game, which gives them good matchups down field."
"And Bo's a great competitor, he can beat you with his legs, his arms. He's tough, he's competitive as heck. And he's making really good decisions and being smart with the football."
Translation: Gus didn't know how to coach him.

He is spot on.
He also knows Gus gift wrapped the very last BCS crystal football trophy and ran it across the field to Jimbo as a late Christmas gift.
OT: Dan Mullen has the very same issue as Gus had here and will not survive it.

Now, imagine what this staff could have done with a Jeremy Johnson or a Malik Willis.
Gus didn’t want to hire a QB guru. He didn’t want to feel “out done.” He was like the narcissistic husband who never wanted his wife to work when she was wanting to go to work because he wanted people to think he was the MAN.
Mullen is so much like Gus in that he wants everyone to label him the QB whisperer or offensive guru but has absolutely NO AWARENESS about other aspects of the program and just wants to be left the frick ALONE.

Does it bother anyone else that Fisher can't wait until someone is finished speaking before answering the questions? He also sounds like he's on amphetamines.
Two of my pet peeves in life are; What Fisher is doing in this press conference, and looking at your cell phone and being distracted while I'm speaking to you.
Get off my lawn!

quote:Nah. Gus just had a different philosophy. He didn't want to put much on players mentally to allow them to play fast. Steele too for that matter. That works, but what this staff is doing works too.

Offensively there is much more put on the players with this staff. On D as well. On D, its cerebrally harder to play 2-gap up front and more zone in the back end. On O with a guy like Bo, I bet Bobo is looking forward to this stretch of games. Bobo is probably the best hire Harsin made for this staff, and a football-possesed and smart guy like Nix is benefitting from it. Also, just think what a raw but immensly talented kid like Finley is soaking up.

This makes me smile.
QB, along with OL, is a great position to sit, watch and learn. Get better every day and then be ready when it's your turn.

He will drive you insane with his playcalling sometimes, but it may be worth it for his development skills. If there is one thing he is great at, it's teaching kids how to play offensive football. Especially QB.
Just need him to pick it up on the recruiting trail and he will be one of the better assistants Auburn has had in recent memory.

That last pass play TD to hunter was a freaking mind bender for the lbs to cover.

quote:Bobo was a witch as OC and QB coach at UGA. He got DJ Shockley drafted, Aaron Murray, the guy AU didn't recruit Greene who was a legacy. He got the CSU job because of it. He's a dude. A good recruiter too. Loves Auburn. Camped as a kid and Dye took care of his Dad growing up in Bainbridge, GA. I'll take it. Shoot it into my veins.

Finally got a chance to watch it. He was very complimentary of DC Mason as well. I love how he took a shot at Lane at the end without mentioning his name

I was a very vocal critic of Nix this year, but I have to admit, that kid is a baller! Just needed time and the right coaching. As we all know Gus would have never benched Nix, even when it was painfully obvious that he was shell-shocked. I wonder just how far the FLA game, a couple of years ago, regressed Nix. It's quite astonishing just how much Nix has advanced in his play since game 1 of this season. That's all coaching, guys!
Hat's off to Harsin, Bobo, and Nix!!

It is what it is. I really like Gus and his character and values as a person but it made me actually feel sorry for the guy that he couldn't seem to get out of his own way. We should have been Clemson of the last decade if Gus would have only been humble enough to get a great QB developer. Gus, to his credit, had some fantastic attributes and mix that with him letting great coaches actually help him on the offensive side and we could have stayed an absolute juggernaut but I am not going to harp on the past. But I WILL say that this strife that is going on in Gainesville reminds me so much of a glimpse of what we saw. Difference being: Instead of recruiting @ Fla, it was all about offensive help and DEVELOPMENT here. Both coaches too blind and stubborn to see the big picture.
I could not be happier with everything Hars & Co. bring to the Plains.
WAR DAMN

frick that. I think JJ would have been all SEC with a real coach. You can't have that many top quarterbacks fail and say it was the quarterbacks' fault.

And some of the best basketball players in the world have air-balled free throws. What's your point? He was Mr. Alabama for a reason. I watched him speed past future NFL linebacker Reuben Foster in high school. It's all in the coaching he received. Just like Elite 11 winner Sean White and all the others that disappointed us under Gus. It's not their fault most of them became head cases just like their head coach.

And Jarrett Stidham’s parents were livid @ the coaching he (didn’t) receive(ed).

I remember Jimbo was suppose to be the Quarterback whisperer.
I was looking around for all his accomplishments (coached up QB's)
I must have skipped over them. Couldnt find any other than crablegs
