I know the season is only about half way over when including the bowls, with plenty of football to go, but I am curious how they stack up against some of the legendary defenses from Alabama, Miami, LSU, etc.

Right now they’re on pace statistically to be tGOAT. We’ll see what happens once they’re in the playoffs.

Before the “they aint played nobody PAAWWWWLLL” folks chime in, the 1992 Bama defense, & 2011 Bama & LSU defenses didn’t play anybody either. 2016 Bama defense got Deshaun Watson in a championship game - or else they’d have been the undisputed GOAT, IMO.

From the little I’ve seen they may be up there.

Maybe they haven’t played elite offensive teams but the last elite Ds we saw in the SEC were before everyone (including the most talented teams) had gone full spread no huddle.

Well no ones quit so you can eliminate LSU , no ones in prison so Miami’s out . Bama we have to maintain these numbers and win it all
Or it’s a failure

The answer to your question is it is waaaay too early to tell.

What you are really wondering is if UGA would beat Baylor by 35 this weekend... the same Baylor that is going to push Texass shite in. The answer is yes.

So... there you go.

The 2011 Alabama D gave up 7 ppg. Lets revisit the 2021 UGA d in January

If this defense was going against offenses that didn't run a spread offense and run as many plays as possible they would be even more dominant. It is just hard to compare bc of the offenses now.

VASTLY MORE EXPENSIVE

$30,000,000 is the estimated cost of the entire team. Defense is the bigger portion of that.

Wonder who the rich boosters in Southwest Georgia who are distorting the entire college football foundations are...

Taking a look at who Georgia has played this year, the best offense they faced was Arkansas (who they shut out)

Total Offensive rankings:
#117 Clemson 3 points
#84 UAB 7 points
#114 South Carolina 13 points
#124 Vandy 0 points
#18 Arkansas 0 points
#30 Auburn 10 points
#76 Kentucky 13 points

Average: #80 6.5 points

Georgia's defense has certainly done what they should do so far, and they have certainly been elite. They've only given up 4 offensive TD's all season so far. The Florida game is gonna be interesting, since that'll be the fist top 10 defense (#9) that they've faced.

I think they have to win the title first.

Something that can't ever be determined. We might get a small idea after the season is over.

Until they play an offense with a pulse we will never know...

But, barring that, I'd say they stack up pretty good against the top 10-15 Defenses in the last 20-25 yrs..

The problem is with the 3yr sophomore and 3yr Jr's jumping to the pros both offense & defenses will never be what they once were..

Most of the top teams suffered huge losses via the portal and draft.. Georgia convinced a few of their guys to come back and play for the elusive NC. A luxury to be sure! So, there can be no definitive answer to the OP'S question. Just a guess as to where they would of stacked up...and even that might be disingenuous either way.

Too soon. From game seven on is where you see how teams are and if they are special or not.

They look really good though, very physical, close quick and pursue.

Best defense ever? 1979 Alabama is certainly up there. Gave up 67 points all season in 12 games.

PLEASE.... Georgia has played no one. Let them play someone with a pulse before we anoint them.
