re: Was Arkansas offense just really bad, or would UGA have done that to most teams last week

Combo. I’ve followed UGA as our main rival for quite sometime now and this is easily the best front 7 they have ever had. The secondary is good but it’s honestly hard to tell how good bc of how fast and disruptive the front 7 is. Arkansas O is a power run scheme out of the spread and they don’t have near the caliber of players to run on UGA. Game over.
The second part to that is Arkansas was playing their first hostile environment in the Pittman era. Due to 2020 being a joke road environment this Arkansas team had a lot of confidence even when they lost close games on the road last year. It is an entirely different ball game playing in front of 20,000 as opposed to 95,000.
The last part is that A&M and Texas are trash. UGA is leaps and bounds better than those two teams. Neither of them should have been ranked as high as they were and while Arkansas is a top 25 team imo — the justification of putting them at 8th is laughable. They beat two super overrated teams and got set up for a beat down in Athens.

Arky's strength was running into the teeth of the LOS all season. Jefferson, through the air, didn't scare Smart's defense in the least. It was the matchup from hell and the only fans who didn't get it were razorbacks. That is until Saturday afternoon.

I tend to agree. But, what do you think is a good ranking for Arkansas?

I think our RBs are elite,
No doubt they are absolutely excellent. Maybe elite. On a team with a good OLine....whew!
quote:Our DLine has excelled at stopping the run for 2-3 years. We are just now getting a great pass rush to go along with it. I'm looking forward to the game with you guys. I always do.
but if your DL stops them all night, we may not have a shot

Objectively they play sound defense and look to be able to run the ball and implement play action on most teams. Beating A&M by 10 means nothing to me. They are complete trash. And Texas was at home with a QB who no longer starts. The fact they are 13th is too high. The rankings are honestly such a joke at this point in the season. I see them going 8-4 which in the West would put them around 19th-25th?

People should have never ranked Texas and A&M that high to begin with but Arkansas beat both by double digits. Arkansas was 4-0 and so they had to ranked that high until they prove that they don't belong in the top 25.
Arkansas whether they should be ranked at 13th or not is still better than a lot of non SEC schools that are truthfully garbage in the top 25.

They did seem to be way off more so this year than in the past, that's for sure.

Seems odd. We (or at least me) thought the west was going to be really, really good this year, and now I'm not so sure the east might be better than the west.

The unified shift by the UGA DL repeatedly messed with Arkansas when combined with the noise… even when there wasn’t a false start it clearly messed with the cadence.
Guys with experience, but clearly hadn’t spent much time in that environment and in a game that really mattered.

Arkansas still has guys on the offensive line such as Ty Clary and Dalton Wagner who aren't athletic enough to compete against the likes of Georgia. Jefferson didn't even have enough time to go through his progressions.
I will say in two years Sam will have a good enough offensive line that will be able to compete better with the upper half of the SEC.

I actually just want you to push what happened last weekend out of your mind. that was a massive blunder that won't happen again. then go to the ap top 10/25 and count how many teams you wouldn't think the hogs would beat on a neutral field.
at the end of it you will be hard pressed to find 10 solid losses, and have to concede that UGA/Bama are lsu/Bama of 2011. arkansas was the 3rd ranked team that year, and ended up at 5. they got absolutely blitzed by bama/LSU. that is what is going to happen between anyone not named bama/uga when facing bama/uga.

No doubt. Just giving my honest opinion. Think the Hogs are a top 25 team just not a top 15.

In fairness, most people were thinking Arkansas would have a good season if they won 5-6 games. A really good season if they went to a bowl.
Now Arkansas is looking like a 7-9 win team. That's pretty impressive.

Getting destroyed by a #1/#2 only means you clearly aren't #1/#2, but it doesn't necessarily mean you can't be #8,9,10. There's generally a large dropoff from 1,2,3 to 7,8,9. The season will play out. I don't think #13 is a bad spot for Arky right now. They may well finish top10.

I think you misunderstood. I said I agreed that Arkansas is probably not a #8 team. I have no problem with them being top 15. I was curious about what FireDanMullen thought.
Now, you guys know that Florida and Georgia generally hate each other...but FireDanMullen has shown he is an excellent poster and has good opinions. I wanted his opinion.
I can name 8 teams that I think might be better than Arkansas if you would like. I would be hard pressed to name 15, though. Not right now, anyway.

I actually just grabbed your post because it was close on my screen, and essentially was close enough to say what I wanted said. I really was more for the UF fan who. now I will say... it seems that a top 10 team this year just doesn't look as good as some have in the past.

He's a top level OLine coach, and is showing that he might be a top level head coach. (Need more time to be sure, but he sure looks good right now) I think it's safe to say you will see some improvement across the line.

A team with a good OL? Auburns OL has gotten better each week. I’m not sure they have given up a sack with Bo under center.

But on the flip side. Arkansas hadn’t played in a tough road game.
Has UGA played in a hostile environment this year? Surely not one like JHS will be Saturday
