Bama-TAMU looked like a lock for the October 9th CBS 7pm kick a while back. How early does CBS pick the doubleheader

Awesome lineup

Alabama at TAMU
UGA at Auburn
Arkansas at Ole Miss

If A&M and Alabama are both 5-0, it's obvious.

If A&M is 4-1 and Alabama is 5-0, it's probably still Alabama at A&M.

If Arkansas and Ole Miss are both 5-0, it's Arkansas at Ole Miss.

Either way, unless Auburn and Georgia have a combined 2 losses, they're the afternoon game.

If UGA and Auburn win out, Bama loses and TAMU loses it would be Auburn and Georgia correct?

TAMU - Bama 2:30
Ark - Ole Miss 6 ESPN?

If Arkansas and Ole Miss are both 5-0, they're the night game on CBS.

Bama - A&M will be the night CBS game
UGA - Auburn will be the 2/3:30 CBS game
Ole Miss - Arkansas will be at 11/Noon on ESPN due to CBS getting the night slot.
LSU - UK will likely be the evening game on SEC Network

Alabama has already been on CBS once (Florida), and will be on CBS the Ole Miss game. With the TAMU game being the next week, would CBS show Alabama 2 weeks in a row?

These are the probables I saw elsewhere....

Saturday, Oct. 9

Georgia at Auburn - 3:30 CBS
Alabama at TAMU - 8 CBS

Saturday, Oct. 16

TCU at Oklahoma - Noon FOX
Kentucky at Georgia - Noon CBS or Noon or night ESPN
Alabama at State - Noon CBS or Noon or night ESPN
Florida at LSU - 3:30, CBS
Auburn at Arkansas - 7 PM ESPN

Georgia vs. Florida will most definitely be CBS, in all likelihood, at 3:30

Cocktail Party has already been announced at 3:30. The schools won’t permit it to be played at night.

Oct. 2 games
Ole Miss at Alabama
Arkansas at Georgia

Not going to happen, but the buildup to Arky @ Ole Miss would be huge with the hogs coming off back to back wins over Aggie and UGA, and Ole Miss beating Bama.

Arkansas-Ole Miss would be the biggest game of the year.

Crazy to think but if OM and Arky are both 5-0.....OM would be 4-0 (have bye week this week) Then it would be a Top 5 matchup. OM beats Bama. Arky beats A&M and UG.

Realistically though its 3-1 OM hosting 3-2 Arky.

I think Alabama and the Texas TV markets will be hard for CBS to pass up.

With that said, if A&M were to lose to Arkansas this weekend and Bama were to lose to Ole Miss the next, this would not be nearly as intriguing of a game. CBS can use their 6-day option if the Aggies were to lose his weekend. Here's how I see it:

Alabama at Texas A&M
Will be the pick unless there are 2 losses for these teams combined in the next 2 weeks. Most likely it would require A&M losing to Arkansas and Bama losing to Ole Miss. But if Bama is still undefeated, A&M losing to both Arkasnas and Miss St. would be enough to lose the primetime slot.

Georgia at Auburn
If 2 losses occurred between Bama and A&M this week, then UGA-AU would be the pick, but both Auburn and Georgia would not be able to lose again between now and then. That means Auburn would have to get past LSU and Georgia would have to get past Arkansas.

Arkansas at Ole Miss
The only way this happens is for both teams to be undefeated.... and that's a tall order. Arkansas would have to beat Texas A&M and Georgia. Ole Miss would have to beat Bama. That's highly unlikely. And even if both were unbeaten it may not be a lock.... there are no metered markets in either Mississippi or Arkansas, so picking this matchup would be a gamble from a ratings perspective.

Answered my own question....

quote:

Until 2014, CBS maintained exclusivity during its 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time window. As part of an extension to CBS's contract with the SEC through the 2023–24 season, CBS no longer has exclusivity during its afternoon window, but still has the first choice of games.[4] CBS is limited to airing five games featuring a particular team per season, and is allowed to air one game in primetime per season.

Also, CBS sure loved Alabama and Florida football.

What strange times we’d be living in.

Then it would probably end up being an 8 overtime marathon.
