It is raining and kid's softball games were cancelled so here I am.
Florida Rush Breakout
Option (Speed/Read) : 18 carries, 131 yards (7.3 YPA)
QB Scramble : 2 carries, 20 yards (10.0 YPA)
Straight Run (QB/RB) : 21 carries, 88 yards (4.2 YPA)
- 20 carries for 151 yards on Options/Scrambles (7.6 YPA)
- 21 carries for 88 yards on straight run plays (4.2 YPA)
FIRST HALF
We played solid defense for the first 1.5 qtrs of this football game - up until the 4th down PI penalty.
- 31 plays
- 159 yards (5.13 YPP)
- 3 pts
- Anderson was a monster. An absolute monster. He wreaked havoc 75% of the plays where he was single covered and a run was to the middle/his side or in passing downs
- HTT and Christian Harris were really disappointing (and this is just the 1st half so far).
- DREW Sanders and Braswell has some mental errors (Sanders on a speed option biggest), but they also made some really nice plays. There is stuff to look forward to with those 2 outside.
- Hellams looked bad and I hope it was just rust. He was late diagnosing things and took some terrible angles.
- Mullen had a really damn good plan and their OL/TEs are athletic and excellent at pulling. They used motion beautifully to get numbers matchups and their guards very rarely got beat trying to pull (and only by Will Anderson).
- Our little DL shifts? Florida clearly saw them, audibled to a different run block and gashed us TWICE on those (the only 2 of them I saw when Florida then ran the ball). The first TD was one of them as was a Speed Option on the first play of the 2nd quarter.

SECOND HALF
- Absolutely destroyed by the Read Option in the 2nd half. Indecisiveness at the mesh point and ILB getting blocked at the 2nd level led to almost all of Florida's big runs. The DL did not blow much up, but they also did not get blown off the ball very much either.
- We got tired on defense the last drive. They started sealing some interior guys who hadn't been getting sealed earlier.
- The last TD run was entirely because Moore was held, which is unfortunate. Especially because it was one of those in front of everyone plays that entirely causes a positive play to happen.

Bama passed on Craig 10 years ago and he went to Auburn

Watch for a 3-play sequence where Hellams whiffed or was completely out of position - I haven't rewatched the game - probably won't.

LOL this is like the 7th time I've called him Craig Sanders this weekend.

His angles were just awful. Looked like he was drawing a 90 degree angle about 1/2 the time. Combine that with Harris/HTT getting sucked into the LOS most plays...not a lot of hope for the 2nd level if the RB or QB gets past the line.

Sanders won us the game staying home on the two point play, so I’ll forgive his and the other linebacker mistakes.
Do we need to just admit defense like this is modern football? I don’t think people are ripping the offense enough for not scoring when given two chances to score up 21-3.

The offense wasn’t perfect but I was pretty pleased with how Bryce handled the game overall. It was a little shaky but he made plays with a shitload of pressure and noise

The guys at College Football Nerds were baffled some people were blaming Bryce. He wasn’t perfect but he was pretty much Bama’s offense. One of them said if we had Ohio State’s QB he probably turns the ball over, gets sacked a lot, and Bama has 10 points.
I agree. He didn’t have a run game and was constantly under pressure. Both because the OL play was crap. The receivers were also struggling to get good separation. This was his first start on the road. And the Swamp is a pretty damn tough place when UF is playing well.

Yea it was shaky after the first quarter but when we absolutely needed to move the ball, the offense got it done and got the win

Not quite finished but my takeaway is actually a little different than what I first thought.
The narrative the last 24 hours has been that we were "bullied up front". I don't think that's the case at all. What we were was tentative against the read option, and almost every single one of Florida's runs the 2nd half were read option plays where we had a man in position to attack the mesh point and he didn't do it. Secondary to that, HTT/Harris got sucked into the LOS mess repeatedly, so anytime that our OLB/DE (Sanders/Braswell/Young) forced a give on the read option play...........there was nobody behind them to follow and drop the ball carrier.
TL/DR - The DL wasn't great but they weren't terrible. The biggest issues were tentative play by the OLB on the Read Option (which may actually be taught, thinking the ILB/S will fill in behind and take the ball carrier once the give is forced). On top of that, just quite frankly poor play by the ILBs and Hellams. We looked like we just got frozen by the read play early and we never recovered. And Mullen, smartly, based his entire 2nd half offense around the read option (read options, play action off what looked like read option, speed option off a read option look, etc).
Ole Miss' entire offense is based around Read Options (with more of a slant towards RPO and not traditional old read option). The good news is we got a wake up call and tons of film on our failures now. The bad news is we looked like we didn't have any f'in clue what to do against it up the middle (ILB, S).

We gave up 100% of available yards in the 2nd half and 3 TDs on 3 drives. That's not just it's hard to play defense in 2021. That's unacceptable.

I am interested in Harris grade. Can you get a 0.0?

He and HTT were as bad as Lee/Harris were in 2019 - and those guys were just guessing because they were true freshmen with no experience and freshmen in front of them on the DL.
This was just pathetic. If those guys play a solid game then Florida scores 10 points or something.

I re watched most of it sober this afternoon and Bama probably loses if Will Anderson doesn't strap up. Also thought Brian Robinson played great football.

Harris has zero football savvy. He looks the part but it ends right there.

Per my review
Florida Rush Breakout
Option (Speed/Read) : 18 carries, 131 yards (7.3 YPA)
QB Scramble : 2 carries, 20 yards (10.0 YPA)
Straight Run (QB/RB) : 21 carries, 88 yards (4.2 YPA)
I'm missing 2 runs and 6 yards in there somewhere, but you get the gist of it.
- 20 carries for 151 yards on Options/Scrambles (7.6 YPA)
- 21 carries for 88 yards on straight run plays (4.2 YPA)

I've said it several times already but will we see Moody some at ILB ? He always is in position and pursues really well. Golding needs to get it together quickly because he coaches those guys hands on.

We were also very fortunate that Anthony Richardson didn't play because he's a freak compared to Jones and we saw what Jones did to us.

I mean at some point when your entire defense is falling apart specifically because guys in the middle make the wrong read I'm not sure how you CAN'T give a guy who has proven to make the RIGHT reads (and is physically capable) a chance.
