Waffle House is the boring guy that makes a great husband and father. No matter what Waffle House I have eaten at I can order their bad steak medium rare and by god is is done perfectly each time. Same with their eggs, always consistent no matter what Waffle House I dine in and no matter the time of day.
Denny's can be good or bad and Cracker Barrel is overrated like Bob Evan's. I would take Ihop or the old Howard Johnson's over them any day.

Sonic was good in the 70's but has gone way downhill since. Used to be in small towns with one at each end so you can cruise Main Street now they are in big cities and have inside dining.

I grew up in the south and "real butter" tastes nothing like they serve in Cracker Barrel
