Downtown Austin was great - twenty years ago. Today it is nothing but a large homeless shelter, with piss stains on the sides of buildings, and nightly shootings for your entertainment

A&M’s Soviet era architecture aside, the people are what makes a place and you aren’t gonna find better salt of the earth people who love their country dearly than Collie Station.
For all of Austin’s glitz and growth the people in charge there are doing their damndest into making the place a literal shitehole. Nothing cute and quirky about simply being “weird” anymore - it’s becoming a pretty disgusting place unfortunately.
So architecture wise and glitz - Austin.
People wise - A&M all day long.

Must be why so much tourism exists in college station as opposed to places like Austin and Nashville.
There’s a reason the expression “Nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there” exists.
Austin is nice, if you confine yourself to the pretty, historic places and ignore the way the city has failed people in need.

This cope-post is driven by the conflict between your political choice and the liberal political lean in Austin, which is in line with virtually ALL urban centers in America.

College Station:
I’ll get yelled at if I’m walking down the sidewalk and accidentally step on the grass.
Austin:
I’ll get shot if I’m walking down 6th street.

Which is why it's being flooded with people wanting to move there..

UT has now turned LSU into fAggie fans.
Please, good lad, tell me more about the crumbling ghetto bleeding into your campus there at LSU?

The brazos valley area is beautiful especially during the spring. That is if you like rolling hills, prairie, ranch land and wide open spaces. Can’t speak much for College Station proper but the general region is nice.

My “cope-post” is driven by the reality that one can attend a game in College Station and have a good time at Kyle or anywhere else in the area during the weekend without having to worry about planting one’s foot in a pile of human shite or a needle or being confronted by a drugged out soul demanding money.
That may not fit your narrative but it’s a fact. Your problem shouldn’t be with one pointing it out but rather the ones who’ve allowed it to get to the stage that someone can point it out.

When I moved to Florida, I thought it would be great. Broward County sucked, and I was glad to get out of there.
Go an hour and a half north, and Florida is indeed a nice place.
See how this works?

People like this will deny and defend what everyone else sees as a problem, rather than confront the local leaders who allowed it to happen.

It is insane how much downtown Austin has changed in the past 20 years.
