Hey all, new to board, Texas fan. I want to be respectful but of course welcome friendly banter and smack talk as well. I am excited for the transition if it sticks. I want to highlight on a few things - I think it was difficult for Texas to find a true fit to escape a conference we couldn't stand any longer. If the PAC and B1G were better cultural and academic fits (yes this is important although I will acknowledge $$$ is king) their is either the flaw of a horrible football culture in the PAC or outside the geographical footprint of the B1G. SEC still makes more sense overall.
Do I think we are going to come in and dominate initially? Of course not. It is hard to guess anything as we've gone through a nightmare of a coaching carousel lately. Almost every blue blood through its time has gone through ebb and flows. Is football king and dictates realignment and decisions more than anything? Absolutely. Even if we are not filling up a trophy case with SEC football hardware for a few years, it feels like to me that people feel there is no upside in acquiring Texas. This is what confuses me a little. Baseball is second fiddle but a huge deal to the SEC...obviously our clout and prestige plays second to nobody in the SEC with the only other arguable program being LSU. I am not sure our athletic program has a program that is not top 15-20, unless one escapes me.
Baseball - top 5? - came close to making CWS finals
Basketball - preseason top 5 with Beard working magic in the offseason
WBB - with Schaeffer future is immensely bright...softball up and coming, 3 national championships this spring alone with women's tennis, rowing and swimming and diving, runner up in volleyball on and on. Again, FOOTBALL supersedes all this but by some people's reactions you'd feel they are getting a less than par football program, obviously it would be foolish to think this is true. In short, just makes me wonder why some would say most valuable brand in athletics, best athletic program (just won Director's cup) - no thank you. This isn't meant to boast as these are basically factual statements. If you think Texas presents an issue in terms of trying to run things within the conference, being controlling, then I guess that is something that I wouldn't know how to address...I'm not really acknowledging that or not. If you are reading this and thinking this guy is self absorbed and epitomizes Texas, you aren't reading it the way I intended it. Real questions, I'm here for the hate or honest rebuttal. If you hate Texas and don't want them accepting to the conference, fine. I just can't understand the logic of they don't make sense for us because they are inferior...to me this just presents itself as an emotional retort and ignoring performance on the field.
50 national championships.
Just glad to have almost every game with a rabid atmosphere, massive football stadiums and atmospheres, etc. I could go on for paragraphs but I'll just leave it at this.

Lol, you're not going to have that kind of success against a conference of well-funded, high-achieving programs.
Your days of racking up wins against SMU, UH, Baylor, Tech, Kansas, Iowa State and thr like are over.
You're going to play Oklahoma caliber teams 7+ times a season. Every season. From now on.
Welcome to grown man football. It'll be a pleasure making you cry.
