Post one of your favorite athletes from "back in the day" that we wouldn't have guessed

Let's take a trip down memory lane and remember athletes from teams that might not be obvious, but that you liked and followed for whatever reason.
Ken Griffey Jr.
Inspried by HRV's post that his running back hero was Marcus Allen.

Griffey Jr was pretty much the face of baseball in the 90's. If I was trying to figure out someone's favorite baseball player with NO information, he'd be in my top 5 guesses.
Someone like Jay Buhner or Tim Raines or John Olerud, hell even Ryne Sandberg or Jim Thome, would be guys I "wouldn't guess".

As a first baseman in little league, I grew up a huge Derek Lee fan.

Will Clark, for the same reason.

Same here for Will Clark, but given the university I sport, most probably would have guessed that

Yeah, I didn't mean baseball specifically, just from any sport.
Funny you mentioned Jay Buhner, I actually liked him too, along with a few guys from those Mariners teams back then.
Had a friend who was a huge Indians fan and basically worshiped Jim Thome.

It was fun watching Bruce Jenner win the decathlon. He was awesome. Such a shame that such a magnificent athlete had those issues in his brain. Real sad that some treatment wasn’t available then, or even now for that matter. Those people must suffer terribly mentally.

Chris Weber and the other fav 5 guys.
Weber cost me $100 with that dumbass Tech foul in the championship....but I still though he would be the next Jordan.
....seems I was wrong.

He reminded me of a guy from my area that I had a thing for therefore I thought he was hot.

I’ve always been a sports girl, my first crush was:

I really liked Fred McGriff when I was a kid for some reason. Braves were good in the 90's that had a lot to do with it, but they had plenty of better players I just liked McGriff.

Slick Watts because of that cool arse headband
Pat Tilley because he was one of my Dad's favorites, even though we were Cowboy fans, and I actually knew him irl later on, and he was/is a great great dude

The most famous athlete of his era possibly.

I was a reds fan. Here's my addition.
Chris Sabo.

I’m a reds fan. But got to go with Larkin

Used to have season tickets to riverfront in right field. I remember talking with Paul O’Neil all the time.

Crime dog fan here as well, but dating back to the Padres years. Hated he got traded to Atlanta, but i did at least get to see him play in his prime. Went yard, 3 rbis... won a $5 bet with my older brother that night

Well, I really haven't watched much baseball since the mid 90's, so yeah, pretty much. Went to my last game there about 5 years ago.
I think Larkin was the last truly great Reds player.
