A potential College Football Playoff expansion would seemingly benefit everyone, and not just in terms of competition.
Per the San Jose Mercury News, college football’s revenue could triple under such a plan, which would increase the current format of four teams to 12. The Mercury News used the Pac-12 as an example.
“Pac-12 schools, which currently receive approximately $9 million annually from the playoff, could see that amount soar to $27 million per school per year, according to estimates by a data research company that has advised numerous Power Five conferences over the years,” the Mercury News wrote.

This proposal at its heart was created to create more participation for more schools and more players," said College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock. "In a nutshell, that’s the working group’s message: more participation."
More participation is code for “spreading the money around.”
Ensured of one or more spots, the G5 should benefit especially, regardless of performance in the actual games.

$1.9 billion expected.
In a year where the SEC gets four teams, each school could swing $40 million just from the playoff.

I think this was expanded to prevent this from happening. What’s going to suck is the possibility on a 1-2 loss team that plays in a major conference getting left out because of a G5 in a crappy conference champion.

There will always be a bubble, but we're talking about the 12th best team missing out and letting a G5 in. And those years where the G5 is already top 12, then it's the 13th best team. Usually, they have 2-3 losses and they're 3rd or 4th in their conference.

Yeah, it’s always money.
Nothing is for player safety, it’s to keep from losing money when getting sued.
It’s always to line more pockets, in everything in life.

Yeah, IMO the way they structured this actually makes it easier for G5, because the conference champions are automatic qualifiers.
They'll essentially be the next teams up for consideration, with P5 "wildcards" filling in afterwards.

Why stop at 12- let's make it like the NCAA - how about 68 teams. Play 6 to 7 games. After all it is about money after all. So what if a few kids get hurt. Then we'd have a TRUE champion. Not these 13-0 and 15-0 fakes. We could start New Years day and play to February 12th.
Then we can also sit around and bitch why Rutgers got in with a 6-6 record and 8-4 Rhubarb State in the Sunshine League didn't get in.
We don't need this. Try 8 teams first and see how the players bodies take the beating.

Alabama has done more to advance college football than any other program.
