Yeah looking at the whole quote in context it seems more like praise for guys on the roster than a shot at someone who isn't anymore. I couldn't believe it when 247 hired Rodak. He's not Joseph Goodman bad, but that's about the best you can say of him.

Agree 100%. I listened to the full press conference and interview with the SEC hosts, Fishback etc. JQ never crossed my mind. Oats was being asked about Estrada, and he was in the process of explaining how Estrada was always motivated in practice. No reference to anybody else.

Amazing what context can add. Maybe Nate meant something by it but to me he was just speaking in general when you read the full quote.

Losing out on Reid to a shitty program like Georgia would be an epic recruiting failure. I get Newell because of his family ties but why would any other blue chip recruit want to go there?

I didn't realize this even happened. Yeah, that's pretty surprising.
He's such an arse too acting like he didn't understand why people took his quote that way initially. You heard a 200+ word quote and only posted 15 words of it completely out of context. Anybody with half a brain saw right through him after the entire quote was posted by Nick Kelley (an actual skilled reporter).
Rodak is just one of those terrible reporters that can't generate interactions and clicks with skilled writing or storytelling so he does shite like this. He did the exact same thing around the Miles/Miller situation. What he and Goodman did around all of that is flat out embarrassing.
Makes me miss Cecil even more.

I blame ESPN. Once highlights started being uploaded to YouTube and people stopped needing SportsCenter they turned hard into peddling rage bait with guys like Cowherd, Stephen A, Skip Bayless, and Finebaum. That dedication to confrontational hot take artistry has inevitably trickled down to regional and local writers who now focus more on clicks and engagement than quality journalism. Rodak actively misleading the people reading his content and then arguing with them when they call him out on it actually makes him look good to his boss.
