He told me he’s hearing from Alabama, SMU, Georgia Tech and Loyola-Chicago a lot.

Freeman breaks down official visits

“I’ve taken official visits to Texas, Iowa, and Alabama so far,” Freeman said. “All three of them have been great visits so far.”

Iowa: “That was my first official visit, and I was really excited about it. Coach (Fran) McCaffery treated me like family, and the fanbase is crazy there. It was a great visit. Coach McCaffery is my lead recruiter for them; we’ve gotten closer since the visit. I spent a lot of time with them on the visit, and since then, we have grown closer. They’ve taken me in as family.

“I watched a lot of them before, but since my visit, I’ve really been focused on Kris (Murray). I like how they move him around, post him, pick and pop, and ball screens; they use him in all of that stuff. Really, I like that for me.”

Texas: “Texas visit was great. It was one of my favorite visits, for sure. My time there was really information-filled, and I really enjoyed the school.

“The person who was my main recruiter is no longer there, so things have changed some. But I haven’t made a decision yet, so I’m keeping everything open and will see how it all plays out with the school.”

Alabama: “They are having a great season. I went down there on game day and got to see the atmosphere. I sat down with Coach (Nate) Oats, and we talked about his plans for me for the future. Overall, it was a great visit, and I was able to get a lot of information.

“I love the way they use their fours, Noah Clowney and Brandon Miller. They are versatile, and they get them the ball in different spots on the floor. Brandon Miller is having an amazing year, and when Noah Cloweny went to Alabama, he wasn’t really known and has shot up draft boards. For them to do that with players who are like me, that’s really attractive to me.”

Freeman talks recruitment

“I am looking to take more visits, but don’t have anything set on the calendar yet,” Freeman told On3. “Syracuse has come back in; I was thinking about setting something with them.”

Syracuse: “They have a history of getting players like me, Jerami Grant, Carmelo Anthony, to the league. They recruit the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) really hard with players like Judah Mintz and Benny Williams on their roster. That was my dream school growing up, so all of that is really attractive.”

“Louisville and Penn State have both been very active with me recently but have not offered yet,” Freeman said.

On3 seems to be doing better with accurate height/weight for prospects. Theyre the only site that has Aiden Sherrell listed at his true height of 6’11 for instance. I also like that they show you players NIL value. As far as who has the better rankings I think 247 is still more proven at this point, on3 will probably pass them but I’m not sure they have yet.

On an unrelated note, I think that Rivals has the best Bama basketball coverage in general to be honest, they do a good job with the bama bball news.

It looks like there's a decent chance that we land Parker Friday. What's the scouting report on him as a player? I saw a blurb where he's a "former top 30 recruit", but yet he's now ranked as a 3* on 247 (not that I care about ratings... just genuinely curious). He's still a 4* top 100 overall player on the Composite. Why the rating slide? His stats look awesome. 24.8 ppg, 14.2 rpg, 7.1 apg, 2.4 bpg. Looks extremely well-rounded (statistically, at least). Something doesn't quite add up. What caliber of a player would we be getting? Are there any good scouting reports out there? He must be good if we're willing to use another scholarship on an incoming HS recruit rather than hold off for a portal guy.

I'm not sure why he has dropped so much for 247. They have him at 171 and every other service has him as a top 100 guy. He very well may have been overrated as a top 30ish guy, but dropping ~140 spots seems like a potential overcorrection. I agree with you though, if our staff really does want him and is willing to take him right now then I want him too. Our staff has a pretty good track record with finding fits. And these 4* fringe top 100 type guys that will stick around for at least two-three years are how you build a consistently talented roster in this day and age.

This isn't really much of a scouting report, but this blurb was in a Tipton article a couple of days ago:

quote:

Scouting Report

Kris Parker Scouting Report from On3’s Jamie Shaw:

“Kris Parker is a long and rangy wing. He has confidence on the ball in the half-court, and his ability as a shotmaker continues to rise. He will need to continue adding strength and overall sharpening his tools and shot selection. There is a lot of natural talent here. There is an upside still to go, and the intrigue lies with the fact he continues to get better a little better each time out.”

Jordan Harper at the Rivals site says he is hearing it's between Missouri and Villanova with Nova as the leader. Didn't Harper used to post here? I'm guessing he doesn't anymore

I don’t think we are taking anymore HS guys. Unless it’s a reclass. We are 100% portal shopping to fill out the rest of our roster

I thought we passed on Parker. I don't know about passing on all high school guys left this spring, but if you look at anybody's top 100, there just aren't but a few left, and there must be some issue with them because it seems most every program is going portal in the spring. High school guys who plan to go to college have to sign in the fall in this new portal world.

I've been trying to dig around and find the link. Still, I read something about Parker a few days ago, and to the best ability of my paraphrasing, he shot up the recruiting rankings 1-2 years ago because of the potential he flashed. Still, his trajectory has plateaued since which is why he's being knocked back down.

To me he's still an interesting prospect, he has great size for his position but sounds like he still needs to polish up a few areas in his game. At this stage, I'd almost want to just focus on the transfer portal. We're going to need to find at least one starter at Wing and that's with or without Clowney returning.

That's how I'm feeling with this class. Not many great options remaining for us. And I also think we could be a very desirable place for transfers. If there's an elite 3 and D wing, Bama would be perfect to show off for scouts.
