Dayton is a good team to start with. One of the best teams in their conference. As you can see this is a gauntlet of a schedule.

9-1 Brady Allen, our leadoff, has a triple, 2 doubles and a walk this game.
10-1 Wes Clark working that zone.

MVP of this one...

Wes Clark has a 3 run homer, double and a single. Andrew Eyster has grand slam, triple and another hit. Gonna be hard to pitch around hitters in our lineup.
Gamecocks dominate Dayton 12-1
2 Multi-run HR, 3 triples, 5 doubles. Farr looked good pitching and the freshman that backed him up were solid.

Thanks for the final rundown. I missed the end of the game. Took the kid and got Chinese take out.

I hope that we're supposed to be pretty decent as we seem to be expected to be.
I grew up on a team whose floor was always still in the NCAAT as a 2 seed in someone else's regional. I've hardly kept up with this team or college baseball at all since their collapse.
Hopefully this will be the start of getting back to where we were.

This team has high quality starting pitchers and a great closer in Kerry. The bullpen is stronger than it's been in many years. We have power hitters throughout the lineup and we have speed on defense.
We are going to face elite pichers every week and by elite I mean the best in the nation so can our offense manufacture runs when we are facing these guys and can we play loose when we are in a dogfight. If so the sky is the limit.

But what's the difference? What's this sudden surge in talent with Kingston after floundering for so many years?
Last year wasn't looking all that great before COVID tanked the season. What happened? Did he just nail it on the recruiting trail?

2019 Recruiting class ranked #3
2020 Recruiting class ranked #6 and was loaded with elite pitchers.
Last 2 classes Tanner must have taught Kingston how to recruit from the junior colleges because he brought in some of the best including the #1 ranked JC pitcher.
Brandon Fields was one of the top high school players and decided on school instead of the pro route...he didn't make the starting lineup yet.
We had injuries and now everyone is back. Talent wise we almost match up with anyone.

COVID. COaches can't recruit in person anymore so players are going to the best historical schools. See Bama's 2021 football class.

COVID.
Bama has had a top 5 class every year and our baseball class ( ranked #3) in 2019 was before covid. Kingston gets the credit not some cold virus.

Except for sloppy play in the 5th we dominated again. Wes Clarke is on fire. 11 hits versus 5. Great series win to start the season.

Get the brooms out as we sweep our first series. Great start . Our starter, Julian Bosnic, had 9 strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings before getting a blister and ending his day
Gamecocks out hit Dayton 35-12 in the series . Now let's win this midweek game.
Next weekend will tell us where we are.
Sweeping any team gets harder every year in college baseball. Georgia lost to Evansville and #7 LSU lost to air force so kudos to our GAMECOCKS!

Tuesday's no time for a "it's baseball" type of game vs Winthrop. Carolina needs to handle business in a convincing manner over the Eagles before the weekend gets started in the Upstate.
CU doesn't have a midweek game this week. in this particular season I'm inclined to believe that's advantage Gamecocks - especially with a clean, convincing win over WU on Tuesday.
does anyone know what the attendance limits might be at the Cow Palace? Fluor Field would likely have a reduced crowd, too. tickets still split 50/50?

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Wes Clarke of the South Carolina baseball team has been named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week, the publication announced Monday.
Clarke had a mammoth opening weekend for the Gamecocks, hitting .700 with a 1.800 slugging percentage, a .800 on-base percentage, seven runs scored, nine RBI, two doubles and three home runs in three wins.
Clarke was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBI and a three-run home run on opening day. He then went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI on Saturday, also scoring three runs in the win. Clarke reached base three times in the series finale, walking twice, scoring a run and hitting a double in the 5-1 victory.
CAROLINA BASEBALL: Gamecocks manage sweep of Dayton
Clarke was joined by Troy's Logan Cerny, Southern Mississippi's Hunter Stanley, Florida Atlantic's Caleb Pendleton, Texas State's Zachary Leigh, Dallas Baptist's Blayne Jones and East Carolina's Carson Whisenhunt as national players of the week.
South Carolina (3-0) swept its opening series with Dayton, putting up 12 runs apiece in the first two games and winning the finale, 5-1.
The Gamecocks hit .356 as a team in the three games, slugging at a .703 clip. Carolina had 19 extra-base hits, including seven home runs, in the three games.
Brady Allen (.556) and Colin Burgess (.500) each hit .500 or above on the weekend. Allen had four extra-base hits in the three games and walked four times. Burgess had five hits, a home run and four RBI.
Carolina's pitching allowed just seven runs in three games, compiling 37 strikeouts and holding Dayton to a .130 batting average.
South Carolina wraps up the homestand Tuesday afternoon against Winthrop at 4 p.m. before facing in-state rival Clemson this weekend. Friday's game is at Clemson at 4 p.m., followed by the Saturday game at Fluor Field in Greenville at 4 p.m and the Sunday game in Columbia at 1:30.
