It's a damn good thing Ray Tanner didn't think that way because I would have Jewelry Warehouse shirts that say Sec tournament winner instead of Back to Back National Champions.

Again, many, many teams have done both. How many times did Ray "save the team" and still didn't go very far in the NCAA? How far do you think we'll go this year?

It's simply a dumb argument to think they can't be done the same year and to be okay with the idea that it's fine just sitting out trying to win a conference championship and embarrass ourselves in Hoover every year.

And yes, this fan base would remember this season a lot more fondly if it won the SECT and bombed in regionals than if it scrapes by a few wins to get to the Supers only to go 0-2.

No. No, they wouldn't. You play the season and conference tournament to get into the NCAA tournament. Your goal is to go as far as you can so wanting to win a lower prize is willing to settle for less. South Carolina baseball has built it's reputation by it's NCAA tournament play not it's Sec tournament wins. Even if you go 0-2 in the Super Regional you still are one of the 16 final teams playing and that is the goal. Our baseball fans remember the Super Regional s we are in but don't remember sec tournament wins and.

Answer this did we win the SEC tournament in 2010,11 or 2012?
2010- 0-1
2011- 1-2
2012- 1-2
We have won the SEC tournament 1 year 2004.
This was Ray Tanners approach and it worked damn good. He sucks as AD but you can't question his baseball coaching ability.

No. No, they wouldn't. Y

bullshite. No way people would go to each other and say, "Hey man, remember that random season where we went 0-2 the Supers? Great year."

Oppose that to, "Hey man, remember that time we won the SEC-T?"

I guarantee you on average the latter is more memorable than the former.

Super regional wins? Sure. Super regional losses? Not unless it was something spectacularly bad (ULL).

You're crazy if you think people remember what happened in '06, '07, '16, etc. as some great accomplishment as to winning any sort of conference title.

And they don't remember any sec tournament wins because we barely have any! Plus, I'm not talking about random 1-2 wins in the tournament. I'm talking about actually winning it. I still very much remember the last out in 2004 vs Vanderbilt.

Oh good God. How many examples do you need to know that it is possible to win both?

Tanner is gone and has been for nearly a decade now if you can believe it. Gamecocks fans are too accepting of getting our asses kicked in these things because of Tanner has if that'll work for other coaches.

Yet you think they would say " I'm sure glad we won the SEC tournament even though we we went 0-2 in the regional".
No, they would say " winning the tournament was a fluke".

Being in a Super means you're one of the final 16 teams playing. Winning a conference tournament means jack.

Show me 1 example of South Carolina ever doing it besides 2004( the only year we won sec tournament and made it to the CWS).

You're using hope and dreams as a base argument while I'm using actual history.

You don't seem to understand your season is based off of how far you go in the NCAA tournament. Going 0-2 in a Super Regional is still a better achievement then winning a conference tournament.

Ray Tanner, the Baseball HOF coach, used this approach because he clearly understood that the big prize ?? was in the NCAA tournament.

Who has the chance to be ranked in the final 16 of the polls a conference tournament team that fails in a regional or a team that won a regional but lost in the supers? That's all that matters where you end up at the end of the year.

Regional Champion > Sec tournament Champion.

Columbia is one of the 16 Regional host. We will probably be the #2 seed with Old Dominion as the #1.

Arms and team are rested and we are playing at home. No excuses now.

Yes, OD is the 1 seed. We play UVA, the 3 seed.

Kingston was saying this will be a pitcher's duel. UVA's starter has put up similar numbers to Kerry this season.

Hope our bats are ready.

I agree with you. Abbott is a stout pitcher but he has been known to make mistakes with his fastball and breaking ball by leaving it flat over the middle of the plate. He normally throws over 90 pitches per outing so we need to make him throw strikes and take advantage when he does make a mistake. He is thought to be a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick so I'm hoping our weekly bouts against 1st round material gives us a little edge.

Guess we know the answer to that now.

I knew it was over after the ODU game... with all those swing and misses at the fastball, there was no way we were winning 3 in a row.

We just got the disappointment out of the way earlier.

What a slap in the face that the Supers are being hosted here. Just let one of the other teams host man
