Scanning through old tweets of Dave Bartoo's during a spat of insomnia. Came upon these gems:

im taking trask over jones

metrics clear that @MacJones_10 needs to stay at bama another year

He also says Ian Book is the only qb at the senior bowl he'd even draft. And he'd do it somewhere in the 3rd or 4th round.

Btw, these are a few of his other predictions from years past. I believe he bases them all on a stat called QB effect, which is basically equivalent to wins above replacement (War), or how many games the qb won in college that his team shouldn't have, based on team talent.

I agree. Who can dispute a guru?
Devote, Jalen, Najee, Alex and Landon should stay too.
Another year and maybe they could accomplish something.

So this guy thinks Ian Book is better than Mac Jones?

And we're supposed to listen to him?

He could stay in college another 3 years and still be a mediocre at best pro prospect.

In my opinion the only thing holding Mac Jones back, among stuff that is not essential to his core ability, is a relatively low number of starts. A lot of NFL GMs like to see a QB with at least 2 regular seasons (24 starts) but Mac only has 17 starts. I think the fact he was a 4th year Junior alleviates some of those concerns. He doesn't quite have 2 full seasons of starts but he spent 4 years in a program with good quarterback coaching around a couple of other NFL draft picks in the QB room.

Trask and Jones are pretty comparable in my opinion. In college, Trask's slightly bigger frame and weight allowed him to be a decent runner but that will almost be a complete non-factor in the pro game.

Not sure he'd ever replicate 41 tds, 4ints, 77% completion percentage, and 4500 yards. Especially after losing so much of the supporting cast and Sark

He'll be paid handsomely to hold a clipboard for years.

Jones should stay at Alabama as long as possible, his entire life if he can. Because he's going nowhere in the NFL.

That's a pretty good hit rate.

Be careful though. The Gumps who claim Jones is the next Brady and worth a top-5 pick are gonna come after you. I am proof of that, LOL.

Mac isn't a Day 1 pick IMO. Barely Day 2.

I think both will not make it at the next level. The game has change to the point you have to use your feet even at the QB Position. Plus both had the luxury of OL that gave them time to find open receivers. Both had issues when pressured.

The guy's whole opinion is based on number of starts. Which I'm sure statistically has some validity.

This guys logic is flawed. It works great if all the team are even and there is parity in all the teams. Where it doesn't work at all is for teams at the top that are expected to win all their games. In this case Mac's team was expected or favored to win each game so QBEffect is skewed.
