We've always been a basketball school. Some youngsters just didn't know.

It just be like that sometimes.

Honestly I don’t really remember the last time Alabama BB was this competitive... and I’m 57.

Don't worry. Bama basketball will drop back off the map after this season.

Sorry for the early onset Alzheimer’s.
I’m 53 and have no problem remembering it at all.

I remembered the days of David Benoit, Robert Horry, Latrell Sprewell, and Hollywood Robinson.
they were pretty competitive.

81 thru 92 was our most recent run and by this man.

1972-1978 was an epic run, CMNewton coached, brought in the first black players Windell Hudson. Wimp was assistant coach, stars were TRDunn, Leon Douglas, Ray Odums, the mule, etc. 2 or 3 maybe 4 SECchampionships. I went to a lot of games early in this time period, saw pistols Pete score about 70 and lose in Tuscaloosa.
But the greatest Alabama team is allegedly the famous rocket eight of the mid-1950s.

Hell Bama was ranked #1 during the Gottfried years at one point.

It’s prob been about 17-18 years, but we went to the sweet 16 out in Arizona, maybe?

I feel like that 1987 Alabama team might’ve been the best they’ve had with Derrick Mickey, Jim Farmer, Mark Gottfried etc. The Sprewell, Horry, Robinson team was good, but they were a top 20 team most of the year whereas the 1987 team was a top 10 team. They just ran into a smoking hot Providence team coached by Rick Pitino in the Sweet 16.

"in 19dickety2 we were voted #1 by Jack McAss in the AP poll, therefore we are football champs that year."
"Uh...I tink we made a Sweet 16 several years ago."
Alabama made the Elite 8 in 04. We know that without looking. Ergo, we are a basketball school. Alabama is not.

You don’t remember going to the Elite Eight in 2004?

Well except for that time we made it to the elite 8 and that other time we made it to being ranked #1 on then country- both of which happened this century and more than a decade after Wimp went and used his pimp hand on the secretary.

For 1 week because we had an easy non-conference schedule. We lost the first game we played as #1 and then barely made the tournament.

That was just a mediocre team that got hot at the right time. Hell, we were an 8 seed that year.
