Yes, covid turned all major sports seasons into a joke this year. The fact is, most sports fans did not take the 2020 seasons seriously.
Most already knew this, but lack of viewership proves it.

yeah, it's almost like baseball had a 60 game season and basketball played a bunch of exhibition games in a pod. Sports, in general, this season have been anything but normal.

I mean, unless you are a Bama fan, how many people really want to see Bama celebration part 7, or 8, or 9, or whatever the damn number is. It's been old for over a decade.

Having the “lowest ratings of all time”, means a lot more than just Auburn and LSU fans did not take that game seriously.
In fact Auburn and LSU fans probably watched the game at a higher % than other fan bases.
It was the entire rest of the country that didn’t care about the game.

And do it against a team who only had to play 6 regular season games and were missing key players due to “covid”.

Well, the person I was responding to seemed to be saying that the public has spoken that Alabama’s championship is an asterisk championship, when the only people I really see saying that are LSU fans and some Auburn fans. Low viewership doesn’t establish that all non-Alabama fans view this title with an asterisk.
For the record, put as many asterisks beside it as you want. Alabama still won the national championship, and it doesn’t matter how fans who hate Alabama view it.

True. One minor note for the NCAA football championship is that it is exclusively on ESPN and no longer available over broadcast air. Even with cable proliferation, this does cost millions of viewers from those who don't have access or who have simply cut the cable cord.

How many casual fans stopped watching this year because half their games were cancelled?
Made it very hard to get a feel for the season with all the abrupt cancelations and roster shuffling.
I'm a pretty hardcore fan who usually can map out the full Saturday slate every weekend and after a few weeks this year I basically gave up trying to figure out who was playing when.
Still watched as much as I could but it made for a very disjointed season.

I think most people view the sports seasons as a "glorified scrimmage" as opposed to a real season. It was too disruptive to be a 'real' season in any sport. That's my opinion...I know I felt that way for all of the different sports....

ESPN announced on Monday evening that their overnight TV ratings drew an audience of 18.7 million viewers, which makes it the least watched national championship game since 1998 when the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was first instituted.
Poor Tennessee gets jabbed even when they are not in the argument.

When the people involved get back to playing their sport instead of dictating behavior to the fans maybe we will return. I have actually not missed professional sports i. e. NFL, NBA, MLB etc. and watched much less CFB this year as well.
Their pocketbooks are about to start shrinking and maybe then they will get the message.
Just play. You are the fans escape from all the social ills. Now many of us have found other enjoyable ways to relax and enjoy ourselves without being bombarded with diversity, inclusiveness, whiners etc.

Yes. People will always remember all of the 2020 sports seasons as the “covid season”. Just is what it is.
Doesn’t mean championships shouldn’t be celebrated and enjoyed by the fans of those teams. But those seasons will always be thought of a little differently and with a grain of salt to some extent.
Hopefully we can get back to normal in the next few months and have a good 2021 sports year.

Just checked and you know what? the National Champions for 2020 still says Alabama.

Completely wrong. The national narrative is just the opposite and all sports stations and talking heads are in agreement for a blue moon change. This was the most trying and difficult season to accomplish what ALABAMA just did.
Folks who have long since suffered from terminal BAMA fatigue can't stop gushing over ALABAMA's accomplishments and the manner they dissected and destroyed the toughest schedule in SEC history. To a man, this has been the narrative. Do you have cable?
No, no, the truth is, you have to come over to the rant bayou to hear what you are selling.

There is Iron in your words. As a Old Bama Fan I can understand how the public feels about Bama. They opposition has two directions. Bitch or get better. Pretty simple.
The LSU has already chosen bitch and it fits well.
9 out of 10. It is documented.

Oh man, your 3-deep full of 5 stars beating up on depleted rosters due to a pandemic, empty stadiums, 3 week byes in November, and a 7-win team as a NC opponent.
Takes like this will be laughable 5 years down the road when CFB is fully back to normal
