It really isn't surprising. People are just turning the channel unless they are SEC or B1G fans. The country doesn't care to watch the same teams all the time.

How romantic.

depleted rosters due to a pandemic

There were not many players that missed their game with Alabama due to Covid. Besides, if your team had trouble with it, it is your fault. The Alabama players went home several times, and for Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and never missed a game

empty stadiums,

They were down, but not empty. Besides, if you are a player, you play no matter how many are watching. I guess this is an LSU excuse, right?

3 week byes in November

I do not think Alabama had 3 bye weeks.

I agree, it would have been much better for Costal Carolina or Cincinnati to play.

Sure, maybe, but one thing is for sure, Alabama will still be winning national titles under Coach Saban. The only questions is five years down the road, has Alabama won 2, 3, 4, or 5.

I can tell you already miss all those directional schools on the SEC schedule. Sux it up.

NCAA football championship is that it is exclusively on ESPN

I know ESPN has a deal with ABC. Not sure why they don't make it available to watch that way every year if they truly care about ratings.

This thread reeks of insecurity about your football program and your anger towards all things Bama related. The link below is a gem from AU's 247 site sums up the fan base's insecurity and MASSIVE chip on their collective shoulders. Mind you this is the same fan base that tells you that 18-22 year old football does not matter in their lives.

The only thing that matters is that we watched it.

I think you can certainly place a good bit of the blame on COVID-19 and the fact that fewer people are watching sports on television for whatever reason.

But the fact that BOTH Semifinal games drew bigger audiences this year despite neither being particularly competitive shows that viewers are also suffering from Bama fatigue or at least the fact that the same few teams seem to always be playing and there just isn't any intrigue anymore.

In the previous six years of the Playoff, the Championship Game has always attracted more viewers than the average of the two semifinal games.... by between 4.2 and 9.1 million viewers each and every time. The average has been +6.5 million viewers. But this year, for the first time ever, not only the average but both Semifinal individually attracted more viewers than the Championship.... you can't blame that on COVID.

What? They had a Natty Game? I thought the season was over after so many teams and players opting out. Damn! Hate I missed all of this. By the way, who won?

Certainly a component of the discrepancy can be attributed to having the semifinals on a holiday and having the championship on a normal Monday night. They really need to move the championship to Saturday. Or make the day after a holiday (why isn't the day after the Super Bowl a holiday?).

Three of the least like programs in CFB.

One of these is simply not like the other.

The reason nobody watched is because the outcome was basically a foregone conclusion. There was nobody in the playoffs... nobody in college football this year... that was even in the same league as Alabama. You had Alabama... then a few steps down... then a couple more teams... then a whole bunch of steps down... then everyone else.
