Alabama easily held this spot until 2009 but looking at the biggest college football programs who haven't had a single winner
Tennessee (closest was Manning 2nd in 1997)
Clemson (closest was Watson and Lawrence both finishing 2nd in 2016 and 2020)
Michigan State (had RB's finish 3rd on a couple of occasions)
Pretty much every other "major" football program that is on top of the wins/national titles charts has at least one.
There's a bunch of mid-teir Power 5 schools that haven't yet, but the three above are probably now the most notable.

Johnny majors and Peyton both should have won it.
I think heath shuler finished 3rd as well in 93.

Considering their histories, I'd have to say Tennessee is a distant first because of how long they were successful.
Clemson is more recent success, but it has been such a MASSIVELY successful few years people forget that prior to 2008 or so they were essentially a rent-a-win.
Michigan State is the anti-Clemson, in that they were successful a long time ago but have been a middling program for quite a while. 2016 was the blip, but that was it.

I mean I wouldn't go that far. They were a 7-5/8-4 program between when Danny Ford's players left after 1993 and the first really good year Dabo had in 2011. And they were really, really good in the 80s.

Distant - adj - far away in space or time
You can be distant and in the lead or distant and behind. Distant does not indicate a particular direction.
Good try though. I'll give you a C-, mostly for effort.

Peyton was robbed, but Hornung's award in '56 has to be the worst of all. Threw for 3 TDs and 13 INTs and rushed for only 420 yds in 10 games. JMHO but Jim Brown deserved the award, 986 yds rushing in 8 games (6.2 ypc) and scored 14 TDs.

I don't think you understand the context of using "distant" when talking about "first".
Usually you would say that Michigan is the Number 1 team that underachieves. A distant SECOND would be Tennessee.
I'll take your C and raise you an F....you sound as dumb as this guy

Dammit....I'm the one who loses because I've been going back and forth with a dummy, this whole time.
You can refute either "Mr. Genius".

Now let's tally up your non-sequitur responses, like this one, from here on out. Retro-counting them would be a TASK.

Go ahead and look up. Try refuting them both....or should I let the 'less fortunate' be?
ETA.
take your time

I don't think you're trying at all.
This response is another 'distant first' no-splain
You meant, 'runaway' or 'consensus' first. You were too stupid then; too proud now. That takes you back to stupid. And I'm back to thinking that you're just not smart enough to go on with this.
eta.....neat meme deflection, though!
