We quit. Plain and simple. It wasn't mistakes. It was a complete lack of effort. We rode in thinking we were hot shite and they annihilated us.

Yep. That's probably the first time I've seen a Saban-coached team just flat out quit when the going got too tough. At least since this run of ours started back in 2008. Assuming we get by Notre Dame and Clemson gets by Ohio State, I hope we are able to return the favor.

Utah 2008 and Clemson 2018.

The offensive and defensive problems were a reflection of problems that happened all season long. Clemson was the first team that could take advantage of both.

I didn’t realize it until I looked it up but the offense struggled in the red zone all season long. Though they had a top 6 in scoring and total offense, they were 78th in scoring % and 30th in TD %. In that game, the same thing happened. They managed to move the ball but fell apart in the red zone.

On the defensive side, the only player that seemed to show up was Quinnen as usual.

Yep.

Offense made 5 trips to the red zone, Clemson took away the big plays so they could play us in the red zone and we had a grand total of 3 points from that.

Defensive secondary was completely exploited, which, thank god we have a good secondary this time.

Totally different ballgame this time.

4:43 mark in 2nd quarter.

Some things stay the same, two years later.

Wasn’t Tua hurt a little?

That 2nd INT by Tua killed us. Such an awful decision.

I think our offense is much more complex this year and Mac is smarter than Tua was in 2018. I guarantee we put 40 + on Clemson if we play them

That's the biggest difference between this offense and that one. 9th in scoring %. 46 TDs in 60 trips and 9 FGs.

Side note: both Notre Dame and Ohio State have been dreadful at scoring in the redzone this season.

No clue what you're talking about. I don't remember Alabama playing Clemson that year. Totally no memory of that at all.

Yes. I think even CNS said he thought we had become to reliant on RPO plays that season, simply because no one could stop them so we just kept running them. Clemson stopped them and we had no real answer. If Sark was OC in 17/18 we very well might have gone 15-0 both seasons.

That National Championship game was the first Alabama game I saw in person after 30 years. It was one of the biggest disappointments in my life as an Alabama fan. Just could not believe what I was seeing. Even more shocking was watching Saban walking around emotionless and disengaged. At least that's what it seemed like and I was sitting very close to the field behind the Alabama sideline. I think Saban knew we were doomed soon after the game started. I still haven't watched that game on TV,just couldn't do it.

He knew it was over from almost the 1st snap. The team wasn’t ready. The scheme was shite, the defense was lost. Nothing more he could do there minus accept the L and rebuild into a doomsday machine of 2020.

Maybe I just remember it differently. I remember Bama dominating on 1st and 2nd downs then Clemson throwing it up for 50/50 balls on 3rd and long and catching every. Single. One. That plus Clemson’s zone blitz confusing Tua big time for big turnovers. I didn’t think Clemson was that good, just very fortunate.
