BannerSociety article on Auburn coaching search
"I have, over the course of the last six days, come to the conclusion that Auburn is a Florida that thinks it’s a Mississippi, acts like an Arkansas and is in danger of becoming a Tennessee.
Despite the above fact, Auburn boosters and rank-and-file fans operate (read: BITCH AND MOAN) as if they’re shackled by the chains of a dim fate or scratching against the invisible walls of some unseen curse against them (Alabama, the league office, a God that doesn’t actually favor Baptists, I don’t know.)."
There are many on here that seriously doubt the capability or potential of the Auburn program. They say we are not a top 10-15 program. We can't get a top 5 -10 coach. We are who We are mentality. We have to settle because we can't do any better. We cannot recruit against the other Big 6 programs.Loser mentality. Mostly former Gus supporters. Auburn is its own worst enemy sometimes. I say bullshite and so does the article.

Does this mean we aren’t hiring a coach today?

I’m curious who Allen Greene wants. Mostly because he’s an outsider and seems genuinely interested sports, skill-level, techniques etc. He looks like a true sports fan at the games.

Who knows? What is happening is this shitshow is probably discouraging great coaches from wanting anything to do with the situation. Will Auburn ever get out of its own way?
Posted on 12/18/20 at 9:53 am to AU86
What shitshow? We have a committee conducting a search for the next coach.
Maybe Auburn actually did the right thing for once and let the coach go before going behind his back to see if they could get someone.

That’s why I asked maybe this is the first time... the article to some might be their truth but I don’t think Auburn is anything but Auburn. A top 15 school with the right coach is capable of being at or near the top most years. Let’s see how it turns out. I don’t want Steele as the head coach I wouldn’t understand the firing of Gus only to promote from within. Regardless of what this writer says every big program has boosters that meddle. Some more then others.

Beautifully said. I’m actually proud that because of the rant I know what the hell this means.

I just ordered 100 shirts that say.
"Auburn, Why be a Mississippi, when you can be a Florida?
War Chomp Eagle!!!"

"Auburn watched Alabama become Alabama again and, based on the fact Tiger boosters’ present behavior still mirrors their past, must still be convinced it was the result of magic beans or some such other mystical bullshite. Here’s how it happened! Take notes! Nick Saban walked into Tuscaloosa 13 odd years ago and declared that, no matter what else happened from that moment on, he was the tip of the spear. What spear? Every spear. frick you, that’s what spear"
Problem is, I don't think there's any way a coach would be able to do this with the meddling from our boosters. It also helps that Saban already had clout from what he did at LSU, but still, as much as I wish something like this could happen, I think it's just a way of life for our program for the boosters to have their hands in everything. Coaches know this and it's making it harder and harder for us to hire a great one.

I concur.
I don’t buy the Lowder stuff either. The guy has been practically invisible since Colonial failed 11 years ago. Hasn’t been on the BOT since 2012. Also 76 years old.
If he really still has that much influence and was pushing to replace Malzahn with Steele in 2017, you’d think he could have blocked the extension and done it then.

Gus brought us national championship opportunities so quit whining about Gus supporters. Nobody else in my lifetime has.
Dabo , Kirby, Nick...get the players. They are allowed to. Nobody else is allowed. When they try, they get put on probation.
Baylor, ole miss, LSU, Auburn,
The NCAA does not make the system fair so you can say what you want. Basketball is even worse.
We need a coach that can actually coach and not just get all the best players because that never ends well.

I disagree. If anything, he wants to be the one to hire the coach to bring AU back to prominence (in his mind, not that we aren't). He was disgraced with the Colonial stuff and sees this as a way to cement his legacy.

That extension was all Leath, who is an a-hole in his own right. Lowder can control the athletic complex, but controlling the president is something else.
I'm so fricking tired of our boosters meddling. They are your typical narcissists who believe they know it all and if something goes wrong, it's not their fault, it's everyone else's.
While I believe it was time for Gus to go, don't be surprised if he is extremely successful at his next stop because he doesn't have the same interference. No wonder CGM was paranoid.
I really am afraid if we don't make the right hire, we end up like Tennessee. No coach is going to want to come here either if they feel like a puppet for money boosters.

Great article.
Very frustrating sitting back and watching a non-state-name public university in a shitty state roll into yet ANOTHER college football playoff and year after year recruit with the best programs in the country while some so-called Auburn “fans” try to convince everyone else that Auburn is a second-rate program that should be perfectly happy with mediocrity.
