8 is most it should ever go.
- 5 P5 conference champs
- 3 at-larges chosen by BCS
- Ranked 1-8 by BCS
- Top 4 get home games on NYE and NYD
- Remaining 4 play in the rotating bowl system we have now for the CFP

Please explain why the Pac-12 should get an automiatic bid. At the top, and from top to bottom, they aren't better than the American.

8 teams. 5 P5 champs. Highest ranked G5 champion. 2 at large. BCS rankings for seeds. Top 4 home for 1st round. G5 teams must have a shot.

frick you and everyone who suggests this stupidity. All conferences aren't created equal don't deserve an automatic bid. This isn't basketball. ALL at large or nothing at all.

So simple a cave man could do it.

I'm cool with 8 but auto bids to conference champs come with conditions.
Conference champs from p5 get auto bids if they have no more than 2 losses, they are ranked in the top 12 and their 2 losses were to teams in the top 25. No 7-5 team needs to ever sniff a playoff spot.
3 at large. G5 team is fine as long as the bcs formula has them ranked in the top 8.

I think 27 is the right number. And it should be double elimination.
First 3 seeds get a bye in the winner’s bracket. 4th seed receives a 2nd round bye, provided they win their first round game. If they don’t, the second round bye obviously goes to the team that beat them (27th seed, in my proposed bracket).
Second round of the loser’s bracket will feature a bye, as will several other loser’s bracket rounds. In each instance, the highest seed remaining, who hasn’t already had a bye, receives the bye. Once we get two teams who have already had byes vying for the next bye, each team selects a team captain and they play Rock Paper Scissors to decide the bye (best 2 out of 3 of course).
The highest seed in any game gets to select the location of the game in my perfect bracket.
