We have a championship team coming back and we fire Gus with not know who we want and can get. Anything but a championship next year is a failure.

What I saw Saturday night was far from a championship team.

My belief is that someone has an offer on the table and the wait now is for the finalization of a contract and the signing.

Before Dye was official, I was asked three weeks before who I thought the next coach should be. Not that my opinion mattered, but my comment was "If Dye can win at East Carolina or Wyoming, he can win anywhere." I was then told "Your next coach is Pat Dye, don't say a word, the contracts are not finalized."

I was at AU for the end of the Barfield Era. The rumor was that 'mama would call' and AU would bring Vince Dooley back home.

Dye was our fallback. Worked out in the long run, but I seem to recall he was not our first choice.

Subsequent firing/hiring cycles have been similar. When Bowden "resigned" midseason in '98 the money was on the interim Bill Oliver getting the permanent job because the big money boosters were in favor of keeping him (sound familiar?)

There always seems to be a candidate who everyone considers having a 'lock' on the job, right up until someone else gets hired. Oliver in '98, Boom in '08, Kirby in '12. I would be very surprised if this wasn't the case now.

Whoever gets the team should be ranked about 12th and be picked to finish 2nd in the West pre-season. Now transfer and injuries but just based on what we do know the west will be...

The Ivy League OL grad transfer is the missing piece. It's sure to happen now.

What makes you think they don’t? Because someone wasn’t named immediately after Gus was fired?

Pretty sure it would look bad to announce firing Gus and announcing a new head coach at the same time. Even if you know who your guy is, you have to make it look like you searched AFTER firing your current coach. Remember how we caught hell for Jetgate?? It was actually a really smart move to line up your next coach before firing the old one but folks were in an uproar.

"Anything but a championship next year is a failure" - oh my, you will be disappointed with the next coach ....
