Had nothing to due with recruiting or the loss against UGA or Bama. This started after the Bowl Game, the PTB realized that Gus would not take them over the hump.
You don’t think the arse kickings against UGA/Bama where his team was dominated on the lines added a nail to his coffin? Or the fact that Nix failed to show any marked improvement or the recruiting class tanking? Or his idiotic statement that a 4 loss season was solid didn’t seal the deal on his termination?

I mean Gus lost more bowl games than he won and your Admin didn’t can him any of those times. I think it was an accumulation of his track record compiled with a really crappy season and your people saw recruiting take a huge hit. Then the apathetic fan base sealed the deal and your brass knew they had to cut bait and start over.

Im hearing recruiting was terrible but is that all?

I mean I don't know how you figure. I can't speak for the current class, but if you look at Gus's recruiting rankings since 2013, he has averaged somewhere around top 10 nationally. A year or two in the top 5. A couple years outside the top 10. It does seem he has been trending down in the past couple years, though. And his 5 star recruits have almost all been busts (Tank Bigsby notwithstanding).

I mean he has recruited better than just about any coach we've had. Certainly better than Tubs and Bowden and slightly better than Chiz.

But the problem is that Bama, LSU, UGA and UF recruit better. Even if AU is #8. Bama is #1, UGA #3, LSU #5, etc. Even so, AU's record against UGA and LSU especially has been terrible under Gus. AU hasn't won in Baton Rouge in 20 years -- totally unacceptable. On the other hand, Gus has done better than any coach against Saban.

A few spots in the recruiting rankings can't explain how badly AU has been dominated by UGA and LSU.

So you guys back on the Ed O bandwagon now, Gaylord? Fickle fans are fickle.

But guess what? Ain't gonna matter. He's gone like Tuesday. You don't get to steal money from cancer kids and keep your coaches. LSU is in a world of shite regardless your charity (pun intended) win.

cost benefit analysis. What are we getting for paying Gus top 5 money? We get 4 losses per year and not competitive against our rivals.

Add in he said 6-4 is "solid" while he makes top 5 pay, he needed to leave. Its gone stale.

This firing is another reason that CFB has diminished in importance to me. All Gus did was win. 67-33 record. Had more success against Saban than any other coach over the last eight years. He is fired. ?

Hard to understand plus they are now paying him $21 million NOT TO COACH AT AUBURN ANYMORE. Just let that sink in.

What coach wants to go into that kind of insanity?

I dont feel like updating it after a win vs your 2 win team, but let me enlighten you to some facts about Gus...

As of Sunday, December 6th 2020, Gus Malzahn was:

3-5 (38%) vs. Alabama
2-7 (22%) vs. Georgia
3-5 (38%) vs. LSU
2-5 (29%) in bowl games
1-4 (20%) in bowl games vs. major conference teams
0-12 (0%) in Baton Rouge, Athens and Tuscaloosa
39-28 (57%) vs. SEC opponents
15-17 (47%) vs. SEC opponents on the road
7-6 (54%) vs. non-conference Power 5 teams
20-27 (41%) when playing ranked teams
8-17 (31%) when playing top 10 teams
27-31 against Power Five teams with a winning record.
2 NY6 bowl appearances, and is 0-2 (0%) in them
7 straight seasons with at least four losses
1st loss to a non-major conference team in 27 years
1st loss to Tennessee in 19 years (20 years at home)
1st loss to South Carolina in 87 years (1933)
1 SEC championship in 8 years
0 playoff appearances
0 national titles
2 first-round NFL draft picks since 2014, both in 2020. No offensive first round picks since 2014. No offensive players recruited by Malzahn drafted in the 1st round. Went 5 seasons without a single first-round pick. Sammie Coates was drafted and didnt know what a route tree was when he reported to the Steelers.

Someone on staff couldnt count to 5 and cost the former years Alabama Mr Football a season of eligibility.

We’ve lost by a combined 69 points this year in the 4 losses.

We beat no ranked teams.
We beat no teams with a winning record.
We lost to a team that fired their coach midseason(USCe).
We never were in the games against GA or Alabama.
We were one play away from losing to Ole Miss and Ark

There's people old enough to vote who have never experienced an Auburn win in Red Stick.

Next year there will be people able to drive who have never experienced an Auburn win in Athens.

This is why he was fired.

This might matter if we played regularly. As such, you should've lost again this season but we have a moron for a coach.

It actually reminded me of the USCe thing which also drives me nuts but so does the other stat about USCe having the x-years long streak against Bama.

Losing to USC and A&M

Auburn seems to consistently tolerate losses to UGA, LSU and Bama but not anyone else.

What’s weird is it was after a win. If you are an offensive recruit for AU, you’re probably thinking wtf? I know it goes on everywhere but singing day is literally right around the corner.
