Arkansas and the law of averages

Everything's been going against the hogs this year. The Razors could and should be 5-3 or 6-2. It's got to change according to the law of averages. When it will, now that's anybody's guess!

Nothing average about that for the bottom dwelling piglets

I’m cool with saving all of our luck and refs positive but questionable calls for next season.
Don’t forget we also had what was considered the hardest season in the land- at least before the season started. So that’s another future favor as well.

If we can keep the coaches together a few years...2-3 more, Yessir... I think we can and will make some noise. But with Covid, The all SEC schedule, low depth in so many areas, SEC Officiating, Did I mention the all SEC Schedule that gave us Florida, and GA... In stead of Vandy and USC...
Yeah, we are due!
Yeah, we are due!

We are going to HAVE to have outstanding coaching and identifying and developing some under the radar 3 star players.
We just have to face it, we will never have the kind of recruiting base of LSU, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama or even aTm. We may be able to build a very competitive starting lineup, but quality depth is always going to be an issue.

If that is the case then how was Nebraska so dominant for so many years with being such a small state?
Why hasn't A&M located in second largest state in the union, never reached elite status?

Small state?? Nebraska?? Just not very populated

I asked the question why Nebraska was so good in football but yet has a population less than two million?
I mean how did they get the players if they had a so called recruiting disadvantages?
I'm using them as an example of a program in a small state that won big but the so called recruiting disadvantages say that isn't suppose to happen.
Why does Arkansas, LSU, Georgia,Florida,Auburn and A&M having much larger states to recruit in have inferior program histories to Nebraska?

Clearly, they used to recruit Texas and other football hotbeds hard! They got Nat'l recruits because they were on t.v. more than the majority of CFB programs. However, that's not the case anymore. BYU, CFU, CINN, MEMPHIS...ETC .
All have equal exposure to t.v. & the media as Nebraska does. Who's no longer a football power!

Nebraska left to go to B1G and that conference is now destroying that football program!

Good info. But also what Nebraska had that many of these schools didn't have was consistent good coaching for a long period of time. When it that was gone, they declined pretty quickly.
I was using Nebraska in comparison to Arkansas as some people are saying that Arkansas can't compete on a high level but yet Nebraska did for so many years.

Nebraska had it's pick of good players out West for a while. Now that's over and I think it's why they now struggle.

They were in decline long before they left the Big 12.

They got the better skill players out of state from all over the nation. But how was that suppose to happen if they had recruiting disadvantages?

Again, as said above... times ... they have changed. During Nebraska's hay day, they had the prime time games most of the time.. .while others were not on tv. Between that and those grain fed big boys, yeah... they had it, along with coaching.
The media made Nebraska as well. Look, we can get to a point of competing once again. Perino did it, Holtz did it, Nutt did to a lesser extent. Bryoles, Hatfield.... again though, in the SEC against national brands, it will always be difficult.
How does it change? With somewhat better recruiting especially on the lines,... Better coaching, and I think we will have that in time with CSP learning a bit. And stacking our Red SHirt program, walkons etc.

Well, during the 60s-80s Arkansas was pretty much at Nebraska's level. They were a bit ahead but we were close.
Regardless, the real reason that Nebraska did as well as they did for as long as they did is that nobody was better at molesting the rules of the NCAA than Nebraska. You see back in the day you could have as many walk on players as you wanted. So Nebraska gave all their in state prospects agriculture scholarships.
They were basically offering the entire state, at least anyone with something resembling talent, and still had a ton of scholarships to use elsewhere. They could take and develop line men from in state, since they had so many they could develop them for years before they saw the field, and get skill position players from elsewhere.
Add to that, with no insult intended to our Big 8 friends, most years they had a one game season. Beat Oklahoma and there is a decent chance of going undefeated. Even if you drop that game and maybe one high profile OOC game they could sleep walk their way to an 8 or 9 win season. Year, after year, after year.
When even a mediocre Nebraska team can put up a gaudy record its not hard to attract recruits. When you add that to them being a national TV regular back in the days where there might be 3-4 college footballs games televised a week at best they had a huge recruiting advantage.
And... as rumor has it... they were fond of giving their players good ole Vitamin S injections because no one tested for that back in the day.
