ND beating Clemson would all but assure they get into the playoff and would block any chance of a back door appearance by a 2nd SEC team.
I think Clemson wins by 21+ anyway, though.

With Trevor out, Clemson probably still makes playoffs either way.
Better for clemson to win

Would it? If Notre Dame wins, that probably eliminates Clemson and leaves likely Alabama, Notre Dame, and OSU in the playoffs. If Clemson wins, replace Notre Dame with them. I'm not seeing the effect either way of it having on UGA's ability to back door their way into the CFP. The ACC is a one-bid league this year, Notre Dame being included. With the Big12 cannibalizing itself and the Pac12 only playing 6 games plus a conference title game, it almost seems like the SEC has a great shot for 2 teams in the CFP regardless, unless the committee is stupid and puts a 2 loss Big 12 team in or a 7 win Pac12 team.

I'll be pulling for Clemson. In the end I don't think it really matters. Bama is head and shoulders above any other team this year.

My assumption here is that Clemson would still play for the ACC championship and beat the brakes off whoever they face. I don’t see any way that the committee leaves out an ACC Champion Clemson whose only loss was with a backup QB and to another Top 5 team.

Aren't they in the same division as Notre Dame this year? If so, Notre Dame would have to lose twice more if they beat Clemson for Clemson to even make the conference title game

No idea how they’re working the alignment. You may be right.

I may be wrong too. I have no idea how they're doing things this year either
They might have done away with divisions for the year, which I guess would probably result in a rematch

You have to want Clemson to win. I hate it, but Notre Dame doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs

The ACC has suspended divisions for this season, so the two teams with the best winning percentage will play in the ACCCG.

I want Clemson to win out and go to the playoffs. Bama and Clemson are 2-2 in the playoffs vs each other, we need to settle this.

At this point with the ACC in such a dismal shape, Clemson is a lock for the playoffs every year. Ohio State is a 90% lock with the Big10 in the shape they are in. Alabama is just too good to not pencil them in as a playoff team. That leaves Big12, PAC12 or a 2nd SEC team to fight over it with Notre Dame trying to crow like the rooster to get some attention in their non conference schedule. UGA needs ND to lose and UGA can't afford to lose another game either.

Clemson all the way! I cant stand Notre Dame.

That's true, but if UGA does indeed win out as I suspect they will. They will face Bama again, in their home state and unfortunately without Waddle. The bad news for UGA is Bama seems to have improved on defense. But I digress a lot of football left to be played.

With ND being "team 15", I doubt they're in any division.

Clemson.
Nothing against them. They have worked hard this last decade to turnaround a program history of mediocrity. And, they have the championships, big wins and tough losses followed by consistent success season to season to prove they belong.
ND gets a top 20 bid every year for being CFB royalty and a top 10 vote if they make it through Sept undefeated. They are perpetually overrated with nothing to show for it. Anytime they can be knocked down a peg, it is a good thing.
