Have only watched the game while live so won’t be to in depth. Had kids all over the hood trick or treating which I love to see. Then had a party at the in-laws and had a great time with family.

But to the game. Have to first give mad props to Coach G and Coach Bick. The guys at the LOS are getting better every week. We were much more physical on both sides of the line and allowed our skill players to play fast. Damn for all those saying Tank should start, and I agree, but Shivers definitely sets the tone he’s runs as physical as a back that is 230 LBs. Zakoby has turned into a beast inside I’m not sure at his size his body can hold up for 8-10 weeks of it but damn he is a fricking hitter and brings his hips through ball carriers and stuffs dudes that are 220 cold. Bo was near perfect today. One bad pass the the overthrow in the quick slant. The to slight overthrows towards Capers is probably caught next year when Capers is able to play through a little contact at the break. Peters played great when Sherwood went out. Haven’t heard how serious Sherwoods injury is would be a huge loss since in my opinion he’s by far our best defensive player. The rotation of Tutt and Tennsion was really good today. What did Marshall have like 22 yards receiving? Pegues is gonna be a special H back once he gets a year in strength agility and diet.

Backups- the main guy I watched today in mop up duty was Steiner and no he didn’t do a lot but was in command of the lineman’s gap contain and played his assignments. Was a hair slow on reaction but made the right reads. Has the opportunity to be really good. It was good to see MAR get in. He’s a hair timid but could be from the old injury or just isn’t a physical style player not saying he didn’t run hard just seems like a run to space kind of runner.

Overall we just beat the snot out of them. Was great to see and the boys deserved a big win. Probably the most fluid game I’ve seen AU play since Purdue. Still a long way to go and could lose every game but could also win every game (yes even Bama) but have to continue to get better every week.

Probably will get some young guys some good reps this week on the line of scrimmage especially the juco and young guys need a couple days to battle live ball down situations. It will be huge for depth down the stretch and into next year.

Only gonna bitch about one thing. TD Moultry dadgumit what’s wrong with you? Please just stop getting penalized. Play within yourself and some good things will happen.

It’s always good to beat LSwho. WDE!

Other than this penalty, I thought we played very clean..

I noticed we weren’t constantly chirping after every single play. Whatever coach made that happen deserves credit and so does Gus for making us win the turnover battle, play almost penalty free, and diversify the offense.

Not sure what we threw a deep ball up so big, but I think we should have let Loy have more throws.

All in all, we played our best game this year.

McClain is a wrecking ball.

You’re right about Sherwood. He’s a real High impact player.

The bye week will be good for healing and teaching.

The issue I have with that thinking is, he plays very little and gets that penalty every game. Dude is a penalty machine. That hit was totally unnecessary especially at that point in the game. He has no self control which is why he gets beat off the line most of the time.

I really hate that we have a week off right now. Im sure the players welcome it but its tough to break while they are finally getting some rhythm.

Players have made some major improvements with their play and their mouths since Carolina. Bravo to them for the improvement.

Gus?!?

Kidding aside, some of my thoughts.
1. After rewatching I realized Tutt sped in from almost 15 yards out for that scoop and score. Great awareness.
2. Big Kat holding onto that batted up pass was huge considering the collision with him and other two Auburn players. Great hands.
3. Carlson’s open field tackle to prevent a TD was beautiful.
4. Tank is our number one guy, but I believe Shivers set the tone with his first couple runs. There is no denying he is explosive when he gets a chance. It’s a nice 1,2 punch and I hope as season progresses Morris figures out the right balance.
5. Loved seeing Stove as part of the game plan.
6. Unrelated to this game, the polls are so strange this season (par for 2020). 0-1 Penn State was ranked in top 20 going into yesterday’s game. I realize polls, until season is underway, are based on a team’s potential, but for some reason that PSU ranking rubbed me the wrong way. Especially after they were dismantled by OSU. I have other thoughts on 2020 polls but won’t type those out now. AU should move into top 25 after yesterday’s game which will be nice.

ETA
7. Bo’s scramble where he juked the LSU player and picked up another several yards made me think of the Cam Heisman scramble. Gary said something similar.
8. Speaking of Gary I didn’t think he was completely insufferable. I thought he was very complimentary of AU’s program and appreciated his comments about Eagle flight as one of best rituals in college football.
9, If Bo starts playing on the road like he does at home, we can be a great team.

Have we had some players from Jackson Olin who have played well, contributed to the program, became leaders?

It’s only 2 guys, but how is the discipline in the JO program overall?

They seem to have some highly regarded recruits every year. Are they sort of the city’s Hoover program?

Does that sort of lead to ego issues?

Corch would know Makers, I know little about high school football in the state.

I do know the school is in a tough area of Bham (but then thats kind of redundant isnt it).

Good write up.

I agree on Moultry. Looking at him during the game, he just looks like he's irritated and frustrated bc he is not a starter or where he expected to be in his SR year.
His focus just looks frustrated, and frustrated players make mistakes.

As to the game..a few more observations:

1. Danielson did a good job too on his comments about the eagle flight. But then I didn't like them going back to rehash the KO with Shivers in the OM game. I am sure they needed filler bc the game was a yawner going into the 4th qtr. In the NFL, they would have switched games, but with college they just find filler pieces for the broadcast team.

2. MAR sighting. He IS a real person! I can see in the short snippet of his playing that he does seem tepid and not an aggresive runner. That may be why he is not seeing more playing time. We want our RBs to have an aggressive mentality and willingness to get hit. Not sure MAR shows that for now.

3. Bo at times actually showed patience in the pocket, although I remember one play where he was very well protected but because he couldn't find his 1st read open, he started to bail even though he didn't need too. Bo, for some reason feels he can run out of a play and still make something positive out of it. He HAS to change that mentality if he even thinks he can play in the NFL someday.

4. Jaylin Simpson(36). He was in as a backup, and again I realize he is not in the main rotation, but he did NOT show good CB skills covering LSU WRs. He got burned for their only TD, and he was burned on another but the QB overthrew the WR. He also looks like he doesn't have enough speed to cover. Watch his gait in film and see if he doesn't have a strange running motion.

5. Gus. WHile I give him all the credit for maybe getting his team to improve and the ability to beat a good LSU team, he still has to show he can win games:
+ on the road against good competition
+ beat LSU at home consistently, not once every 4 yrs
+ beat GA period
+ not lose to UT at home again

At least from the looks of him on the field Kid looks very tall.

Now Pegues at 300lbs....I think they missed counting a few donuts. But boy that kid put some crushing licks of a few DBs trying to hold the corner. I noticed a few times they just bent down and turned to take the lick, they did not even try to make a tackle.

VERY nice to see him focused on blocking when he is not getting the ball.

I noticed that on Simpson as well, Im hoping he just got his feet tangled up on that one play where he got burned for a TD.

MAR looked very tentative. Give him a little more time to get over the mental part of the injury, and give him a few reps with the first string line. If you look at his HS film, the kid was absolutely electric, and he definitely has a good bloodline judging from his older brother.

Loving how Newkirk is playing, that poor fella has waited four years for this coming out, he is playing very very well.

And Pegues swallows up that ball when he catches it.

Nice hands, and the ball just disappears in him, with all that size. :)

Steeler,
On the OM kick off, it was interesting to hear the official explain you have to play through the whistle and it would have been a OM TD. Gus later said play til the whistle blows.

This is a change from the NFL and may be something we may need understand

OP got another sack yesterday. I can't remember all the details but I know there was some disagreement with a prediction that you made preseason

To answer if MAR could be like OMAC you have to have a QB that runs the power off the read and yes Bo can run the power off the read but I don’t think we want him getting hit and tackled by 300 pound plus defensive tackles often.

I guess he could run the jet motion or line up beside the wildcat like OMAC used to but if it’s Pegues I’m not sure I want him making to many reads at this point.

To the question about JO high school. The coach there is a good players coach that can be lenient but not to the level that the kids are totally out of control. JO disappeared for competing for about 25 years and very few players came out of there. Now you are getting 1-2 players each year with D1 ability so kudos to him for that.

However, I will have to say he has to cater to the players some to get enough players to compete. Almost like recruiting and when an ultra talented guy comes through they have an attitude that I’m outta her kind of culture without the cultural discipline needed to really carry over. He is one of the coaches that I don’t personally know but he is a nice guy and a good coach from my understanding but had to look away at some things to get back on track with the program.

But after 4 years under Steele and Gus TD just has to be some kind of knucklehead to keep doing dumb crap on the field.
