Honestly ain’t for sure carolina belongs, much less mizzou. When carolina got the invite from the sec it was basically like throwing a drowning bum a solid gold diamond encrusted life preserver.
Before Carolina got the golden ticket they were basically a rent-a-win team like southen miss. ( and yes i realize many of us including uga lost to rent-a-win carolina and southen miss back in the day.) That doesn’t mean we have to give them a big ol fat diamond ring and marry them.
Basically it’s like letting Memphis in. I mean might as well, we did it once already.

Mizzou would be the same thing in the BIG whatever that they are in the sec: Unwelcome-fish-out-of-water-also-rans.

Which rival would that be mizzou? I mean is there an actual team in the BIG whatever that would claim mizzou as a rival?
Yeah I didn’t think so. But hey, there’s always Kansas.

We didn't get one extra penny of TV revenue from CBS when we brought Mizzou and A&M on board.
Who gives a shite about CBS? Adding Mizzou and A&M gave Slive the power and leverage to launch the most successful television network in the history of the cable industry.
quote:
Enter Texas A&M and Missouri which officially joined the conference five years ago last Saturday. The SEC pounced on the Big 12's dysfunction to add two large TV markets that would pave the way for the most successful television network launch in cable history. From revenue alone, the SEC's decision to add two schools has proven to be a brilliant decision. In the year before the expansion, the SEC distributed $248.1 million, good for $19.5 million per school. Compare that to the SEC's 2016 distribution when it shipped out $565.9 million or $40.4 million per school.
The best part? That number should only keep going up
The 5-year impact of Texas A&M, Missouri joining the SEC
I really don't give a shite if you like us or not, but don't remain clueless about the economics of the decision!

The school raked in $97.27 million in 2016, its largest total ever in spite of lagging ticket sales. That still only ranks 13th best in the SEC -- 30th best nationally
Freaking pathetic. PATHETIC. P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C.
Besides confirming that Mizzou is a total loss for the sec, the linked article DOES make me feel better about adding atm.
Hey mizzou no worries. My ex wife was convinced she earned that money, too.

Southern has been one of the better mid-major programs for like 40 years now. Hardly a rent-a-win.

Who gives a shite about CBS?
It was a HORRIBLE TV deal and at the very minimum should have been
renegotiated in 2012. The SEC left tens of milliins of dollars on the table. The next TV deal could be worth $300 million annually. So PLENTY of folks care
about the deal

And? No problem with the A&M add but the "TV market" argument for Missouri just isn't viable.Once again,KC and STL aren't good CFB
TV markets. NC and Virginia are bigger and more importantly GROWING TV markets that would have easily made the conference the same amount of money in the expansion TV deal.
You REALLY think Missouri adds more eyeballs nationality than a
Clemson or a Oklahoma? BOTH much smaller local markets.

Ya said "who gives a shite about CBS"
It's all I need to know about your grasp of the "economics of the decision"
Never once did I say expansion wasn't a bad decision I just the said the Missouri "TV market" argument is
WAY,WAY overblown.

You are missing the point of the expansion. It wasn't to squeeze more money out of a moribund CBS contract. Think bigger!
quote:
What most have missed throughout expansion is this — the SEC’s addition of Texas A&M and Missouri was not about increasing the rights fees under the existing television contracts, it was about the coming SEC Network. Once the SEC decided to add Texas A&M and Missouri, a network was a foregone conclusion.
quote:
That’s because the SEC has only three real options as a 14 team conference:
a. negotiate at least a $40 million rights fee increase for Texas A&M and Missouri while maintaining its current television structure
b. start a network in partnership with ESPN
c. wait 12 years until 2023-24 and start its own network then
Option b. is immediately worth billions of additional dollars, the other two aren’t.
This gave Slive the ability to accomplish "b"

Doesn't really appear to matter under this reasoning:
quote:
Every one of those 9.5 million cable and satellite households would end up with the SEC Network on its basic tier.
Why?
Because there would be howls of outrage if the SEC Network wasn’t included. Lots of SEC fans complained about Missouri’s inclusion to the SEC because they argued that people didn’t care that much in Missouri about Mizzou football. That’s the wrong way to look at this. The better way to look at it is this, do enough people care to demand that the SEC Network be carried by their local cable or satellite service?
The answer is yes. Hell, yes, even.
See, you don’t need to have every one of these households be made up of rabid Aggie or Mizzou fans, you just need enough of them to make a fuss guaranteeing the network is carried on the basic tier packages.
It's certainly in my basic tier as well as my sister's who doesn't give a shite about football.
Texas A&M and Missouri Worth at Least $114 Million a Year to SEC Network
Located in a more populous state A&M brought more to the table to be sure, but MO had enough population and cable subscribers to more than pull its weight at least compared to a less populous state or a state with an existing SEC team.
You really think Slive and his baws didn't run numbers or think this through? Think big picture!
