Is it good enough to help State be a consistent 8-10 win a year team? Absolutely. I don’t think anyone expects them to be Bama under Saban. Arkansas under Petrino is what they are aiming for.

This is spot on.

he will flourish with even lower SEC talent same with Drinkwitz at Mizzou

Did ya just put Drinkwitz in the
same sentence with Leach?

Think ya need to pump the brakes just a tad.

There isnt anything wrong with celebrating a win over a team that everyone left because they knew it would be under investigation

Its also just not that big of a win

You started Evans and he only had 28 snaps?

How is that starting?

Flott was a starter with 76 snaps. Ricks was a starter with 78 snaps.

Those were your starters. Evans and Ward were backups.

Meanwhile this is Mississippi State's STARTING strong safety (he played the MAJORITY of snaps): LINK /

Without Stingley, the Tigers’ starting cornerbacks — sophomore Cordale Flott, graduate transfer Darren Evans and freshman Eli Ricks — had one combined career start at LSU. Evans, the player with the most experience, transferred from Nicholls State earlier this month.

I'm guessing that Evans got burned so often he was benched. Flotte got hurt in the game iirc and that might have been when Evans went back in. Otoh safeties Maurice Hampton and Todd Harris were 4 stars and they didn't play well either

The listed starters were Flott and Evans on the outside, Hampton and Harris at safety. Obviously, guys were moved around, and we played with a nickel most of the game. Where are you getting the play counts for everyone? I can't seem to find those but would be interested to see them. I find it hard to believe Evans only played 28 snaps as State keyed in on him all day. He got burned, repeatedly.

Right. Like UFM's read option would NEVER work in the SEC.

Bama's D is still built to defend the run. Leach doesn't run. Bama will have their hands full too.

Got it from a 247 article which I think maybe got it from PFF.

I'll paste the corner info here.

Corners/Nickel/Dime - With Stingley Jr. out, and apparently Raydar still not good enough to play, we only were able to get 4 guys on the field here in Ricks, Flott, Ward and D. Evans. It shouldn't surprise anyone Evans posted the worst grade in the group at 33.3 overall in 28 snaps. In 20 coverage snaps he was targeted (picked on) 8 times and gave up 5 completions for 113 yards and a TD, no pass breakups. Ward was next up and probably shouldnt have even played due to not being 100% but posted a 53.7 overall grade and in 45 coverage snaps was targeted 9 times and allowed 5 completions for 135 yards and 1 TD but did have 2 pass breakups. Flott was on the field for an exhausting 76 snaps and in 61 coverage plays ws targeted 7 times, allowing 5 completions for 89 yards and a TD with 1 pass broken up. Flott, Ward and Evans all missed 1 tackle in the game. Ricks was really solid in his first college action posting a 75.7 overall grade in a downright crazy 78 snaps (he never came off the field). He was targeted just 5 times in 65 coverage snaps and allowed 2 receptions for 76 yards and 1 TD, 1 INT and 1 pass breakup. The 1 pass he allowed for a TD was a tough play, he was rubbed by a MSU defender and just misjudged a well placed ball by Costello that went over the top of him for a catch and TD.

This current LSI ball club looks very similar to O’s powerhouse Mississippi squads.

Not to mention Peterson figured this out immediately. There are smarter DCs in the the SEC than what’s currently at LSU.

This had a lot to do with what happened. Bo will have trouble with Ole Miss also. Lane is the king of getting a matchup advantage. I don’t know how many wins LSU gets but Pellini will struggle schematically.

Looking forward to LSU on It’s Meltdown Time today. Hopefully they’ll have a Pelini melt gif

2020 Team Composite Talent Rankings:

#7 LSU
-68 Commits on roster; Avg rating 91.21
- 5-STAR x 7; 4-STAR x 34; 3-STAR x 25

# 23 Mississippi State
-85 Commits on roster; Avg rating 87.37
- 5-STAR x 1; 4-STAR x 18; 3-STAR x 64

Depth is a difference, but LSU wasn't needing to dig into its 3 deep nor was MSU. The talent on the field was heavily in LSUs favor. They simply were unprepared and got out coached and out executed. MSUs 1s played better in all matchups than LSUs 1s.

It happens. LSU is a tremendously talented team and has every ability to bounce back. A great season is still ahead of them and this may have been the wakeup call they needed to start working off their championship gut. They will be in the thick of how the west is decided unless the team just collapses.

That said, pointing at talent and losses vs an MSU team that is completely outmatched on paper, with a QB who arrived midsummer, and a completely new staff and scheme is kind of a non-starter

I don't see anything that makes the SEC unique. If it's true that there's more "speed" in this conference, why would that not be true of the offense as well as the defense? Since spread offenses came into vogue, SEC offenses have been putting up points like a pinball machine just like every other conference. Leach won't field a playoff caliber team simply because he will not be able to consistently recruit the caliber of athlete necessary at Miss. St. I'll bet he will win at least as consistently as any other coach Miss St has had in the last 2 or 3 decades.
