Yeah, but it's a massive difference in ability to execute.

He made some good plays when he was in there. Had a td to Pickens off by half a step. Had several nice passes called back due to holding. Stetson was just calmer.

Dwan got a big time case of the goosebumps. Can’t imitate game time at practice.

Dwan didn’t look too bad in the start but after all of those penalties and stupid shite it seemed like he started pressing.

Bennet just came in and threw it to the open guy.

That big hit early 100% got him shook. I bet he wasn’t used to taking many big shots up in Michigan in high school. Very well could have been the hardest he ever got hit plus the whole brain thing.

True story. In high school we had a QB who was a practice stud. Not nfl size or anything but very impressive for a 1a private school. Come Friday night, he looked like a lost puppy. Our shorter less athletic sophomore calmly came in and led us to a decent season. The lights melt some and show that pretty shine of others.

Some guys made a decent college career out of excelling in practice only.

We didn’t even need to take those two transfers

First ever college game for the guy, don't read too much into it.

He's not. He's lightyear more experienced, and Mathis was in his own head. You can see he has the tools, but it looked like the game got faster for him instead of slower.

Stetson is good for now, but don't be surprised if Mathis or Daniels finish the season.

Execution is all I care about, either you can or can't.

He definitely appears timid. Stopped a drive in the first half by going down with 4 yards left in front of him missing a fitty down by less than a yard. Ran out of bounds another rime again with 4-5 yards before anyone was going to hit him. He probably ain’t had much contact since high school and contact is something you gotta experience or you will try to avoid it....bad look for a running QB as big as he is.....

That's a good question. I was really skeptical when people were saying D'wan was the "man" and would be starting. I figured he was going lights out in practice and it was feel good story. But the kid was coming off major surgery which had to have some effect on him worry about hits. I wonder what happens next year when Brock comes in then we'll have Bennett, JT, D'wan, Beck, and Brock.

Mathis is more talented than Bennett. WHat Bennett has over Mathis is experience: the presence in the pocket, the knowledge of the game, etc.
Bennett is a backup QB - we can't hitch our wagon to him.

I will say I always thought Stet the Jet was like a jokey sort of nickname but he’s actually a good bit quicker than I thought he’d be. Conversely if Mathis really is “3rd fastest on the team” then we have a slow arse team.

Coaches need to instill some confidence and decisiveness into Mathis. He was indecisive even on runs.

There were two runs that he should just tuck it and get as many yards as he could, but he couldn't decide where to go and got stopped sort. There were others where he could have picked up 6 yards but made bad throws instead or threw it away. There was even a 3rd down run where he went out of bounds short of the first for no reason.

He has more confidence in his arm than his legs, which only seems odd if you don't consider his medical history.

Kid could still end up better than Stetson, but not without coaching.

That head to head hit may have rattled Mathis more than we know. He earned the start for a reason. The coaches will coach and go with the guy they think can win it.

I am concerned about center. Hill shouldn't be missing the QB with his snaps.
