In June, Adalja told Vols Wire that it would be “a challenge” for a college football season to be played this fall.
They already were planning to cancel then

Because the NFL is not playing?

So why is the spring any different?

Yes, very misleading headline. Why use a quote from 2 months ago and make it seen like it was said a half hour ago?

He later changed to nearly impossible after the last week. It’s semantics but he did change his sentence

I guess he's the NCAA's Fauci.

But all other sports can play and be fine. Okay

It's worse and whoever is saying the spring hasn't really thought things out. Which I guess is par for things now considering all the short sighted reactions thus far.

They are betting the farm that there will be a vaccine ready for deployment by early 2021, that's why Spring.

No chance in hell I'm taking it.
I'm not an anti-vaxxer or anything, but that seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

And if there's no vaccine what do we do then? Continue to live in fear?

The MAC isn't playing in the Spring, I spoke with an assistant coach for Akron. That was put out just so the underclassman don't jump ship and transfer to another conference that hasn't cancelled.

I don't blame you one bit. Guess what? You can't sue a drug manufacturer for a bad vaccine. If they were negligent or it was tainted, yes, but just because it caused your nuts to fall off as a side effect? Nope, they are protected by an obscure law meant to ensure that vaccine research and development continues forever. Big Pharma has ZERO liability for an FDA approved vaccine as long as it is not tainted or something. You get a pittance settlement from a fund set up for just such an event by the US government.

What do people think is going to be different in the spring? We will likely be having the same discussions we’ve been having for months now.
I just want to wake up when people realize this thing is never going away and we just pull the bandaid off and learn to live with a new virus to complement the assortment of viruses we already deal with on a yearly basis.

The implication is a few hundred thousand additional deaths and more folks will decide to adhere to the recommended standards thus allowing the greater community to slow the spread and limit the risk to student athletes. They want an Ro number well under 1, like most (if not all) other developed countries before they feel safe.
Note: That's not safe from spread. It's safe from public scrutiny. They don't want it to look like they're risking amateur athletes for a buck.

The covid vaccine will have gone through the same testing that the flu vaccine does.
It sounds like you are.

I think there is truth to this. I think they are banking on people panicking in Fall and social distancing through the winter resulting in a more manageable Spring.

Didn't Dr Fauci say it may only be 50-60% effective?

Is this virus all of a sudden killing people under 70? Because under 70, you have a 99.999% chance to survive it.
