No time like the present: let's rebuild the SEC football schedule from scratch

Let's face it, the cobbled-together system we've had since the 2012 expansion flat out sucks.
Why not take advantage of the SEC-only 2020 season - or, if it ends up cancelled altogether, the 2021 season - and realign the conference on more practical lines?
Proposal 1: 6+1+2
Keep the current divisional alignment, but have each team play their 6 intradivisional opponents plus 1 permanent interdivisional foe, then 2 additional interdivisional teams, rotating to 2 of the other 4 remaining interdivisional opponents every other year
Proposal 2: 5+4
Scrap the divisions, and have each team play 5 permanent opponents, plus 4 of the remaining 8 conference teams, rotating to the other 4 every other year
Obviously Proposal 1 would be the easiest to implement, as it would only entail adding one conference game against another team from the opposite division, whereas Proposal 2 would involve a significant realignment of schedules, and a new method of determining CG opponents - but since the powers that be are talking seriously about shitcanning all of their carefully planned schedules this year anyway, why not?
Thoughts?

We haven't played Vanderbilt in Nashville since 2009, Florida in Gainesville since 2010, Georgia in Starkville since 2010, and yet people actually defend the current schedule model.
It's broken af.
And give me an all conference schedule that fixes this this year over New Mexico or Alabama A&M

Proposal 2 would shorten that to 4 seasons.
That's one of the best reasons for changing the schedule. For example, South Carolina joined the SEC 28 years ago. AU has played at Williams-Bryce exactly twice: in 2006 and again in 2011. We're not scheduled to return there until 2021.

I'd be down with Proposal 2. For Auburn It'd allow for our traditional rival every year.
BAMA
UGA
TENNESSEE
FLORIDA
MISSISSIPPI STATE (for series longevity sake - 95 games)
Then
Kentucky
LSU
Vandy
Ole Miss
And the Johnny-come-latelys
Arky
Carolina
Mizzou
A&M

Texas A&M

^Everyone play each other once.
Anyone not in this group, I don't care, do whatever you want.

i think your idea is an excellent one.
i like the second one better but the first is good too.
of course, people would bitch no matter what would be done.

Actually, we also played there in 1997. The only reason I know that is because I went to that game.
That said, it doesn't change the point you were making. I totally agree that we need to play all conference teams no more than 6 years apart...although I think I might prefer the every 4 years option.

I could definitely get on board with this scheduling.

It's stupid to fight the simple math
Simple math says that it's easier to go to a 10 game In Conference sked because the home and homes are much easier to schedule for the Teams in the Conference
With a 7 & 7 format, simply play the 6 in your Division and then rotate 4 from the other Division, the scheduling math works out real easy
Don't understand why folks wanna make stuff hard?

That all sounds cool but we don’t need a SOS boost.
The reason the ACC, big10, Pac all dj it is because their conferences are horrible.
Yet, here we are with Arky stste and ala A&M on these sec schedules and the sec is still the daddy.
People would rather watch Alabama’s full season with three patsys than Michigan’s 9 conference games and two patsys.
It’s not as big a deal as all would let onto be.
Furthermore, you’ll take out an sec team for the playoff by having us beat each other up by one more game.
But if it makes money, then try it. That’s what moves the needle.

Just go the frick away.
Nobody here gives a shite what the fan of a quitter school that left the SEC thinks.

Alabama in the East +1 vs LSU
Posted on 7/9/20 at 10:27 pm to PeeJayScammedGT
quote:No it doesn’t. You have 6 teams to play in your division and 7 in the other. Won’t work without at least 1 permanent opponent.

If you’re going with a 10-game conference schedule, in order for it to even out is to go 6+1+3, which would enable every school to visit and host every other school every four years.
